Ready for a New Year!

  Hello friends!  Vivian here today to share with you a card I recently crafted that explodes with color. Quite a change from my last share here on the RRR blog!  

   I had a variety of media on my craft table and just allowed myself to play around with it.  What resulted feels very Asian to me.  This often happens in my projects when I don't think too much, which I find so interesting given the fact that I am so darn Americanized.  Guess it's in the blood!  

   This colorful, aged effect was created by blending distress inks, stamping with Stamper's Big Brush Pens from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft, misting with plain water, and heat embossing.

 

As a simple, yet elegant finish to my card project, I wrapped some beautiful and incredibly affordable Black Organza from the Really Reasonable Ribbon shop around my card front three times.  Then I took smaller lengths and tied knots down my stream of wrapped organza.  I especially love this fiber because it allows your work to peek through while adding a nice dose of texture and sheen to your projects.  Hope you have a great New Year celebration!  I will be looking forward to an end to 2012, and a fresh beginning in 2013.  Cheers to the realization of our dreams and intentions for the New Year! -Vivian FIBERS:

You Are a Star!

Hi, it's Jacquie again with my final post as the Guest Designer this month. Some themes are so versatile, they can be used for almost any occassion and stars are one of my favorites! I used the Textured Two-Tone Gold/Antique Gold ribbon to create this quick congratulations card.

I love that this basic design could be used for a birthday or thank you card as well.
Isn't this ribbon cool?! The Textured Two-Tone Gold/Antique Gold ribbon  has a great shimmer and color quality to it. Doesn't it look fabulous against the dark cardstock!

Because it is a double faced ribbon, I was able to loop it front to back as I created the star base for my glitter die cut star to sit on.  I'd like to give a big thank you to Bonnie and the fabulous Design Team here at RRR for letting me play along this month - I had a blast!

  I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas.  So, now that the presents are opened, it's Thank You card time.  

I went with a simple design because I made a set of Thank You cards from my son to use for the gifts he got from some of his students.  I used up some leftover Christmas design paper (The Paper Studio) along with the Thank You sentiment printed with my computer (font is Britannic Bold - size 28).  I used Spellbinders Nestabilites A2 Matting Basics B for the Thank You rectangle and Back to Basics Tags for the dark green back piece. I covered the seam between the two design papers with 3/8" Hunter Green Grosgrain and I finished off the tag with a little piece of Natural Jute String from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

 

I was able to get some ribbon and trim on my cards and it still has a masculine feel.  This card would also be great for mailing because with this type of ribbon addition, the card remains very flat.

 

Another fabby CAS card from this very non-CAS girl!

Best part is that they went together really quickly once I had my design planned out.

Ribbon Rose Vintage Pin Tutorial

Hello Friends!! Heather here, and I hope that everyone is enjoying the Holiday season! My family, like many of yours I'm sure...has and will be really busy for the next week.  We just celebrated  Christmas at our house with family, next week we celebrate both New Years, and a Birthday, and the following week another birthday...LOL.  We get lots of family get together time, at this time of year! Well, it is my turn for a tutorial, and we just had our first snow (that counts..lol), and it took me 2 hours to drive home from work.  I already find myself thinking of spring! Here is a Ribbon Rose Pin Tutorial that I created using some fabulous Ribbons and Trims from Really Reasonable Ribbon!!

Here is a list of goodies I used to create my pin, if you would like to gather some supplies and create a long with me. Recycle a cereal box, scissors, embroidery thread, tapestry needle, glue gun, ink pen, pin back, scrap of fabric, and of course some Moss Green leaves trim, moss green jute ribbon, pink and white stripe ribbon, cotton candy baker's twine, cream seam binding, baby pink seam binding and green pom pom trim from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  I also used a heart metal charm, antique button, porcelain rose, drop pearl and glass seed beads. Here is a photo of both my pins below.

RRR Hair Bow

Hello everyone, Cheryl here with a different kinda post for me. I made my DARLING Niece a Hair bow using Really Reasonable Ribbons /Alligator Clip and a button. However I had to use my laptop to snap photo's due to her age, and not sure how good you will be able to see, but hope this works!! :)

Supplies Used:

Circus Dots Grosgrain Red 1.5"

50 mm Alligator Clips

7/8" Gingham Red Ribbon

For this photo I just wanted to show what it looked like while she was wearing it, and it was super hard to get her to pose.....LOL I might have to try this again with making more of these, they work well using the Hair clips that Bonnie sells Here! I used the 50 mm Alligator Clips, they seem to hold well in her fine hair.

And here is a fun picture of the 2 of us, we were just having fun in my craft room.

  Good morning everyone and Merry Christmas. Today's post is a little about me sharing a project and a lot about all of us here at Really Reasonable Ribbon hoping that you are enjoying your holiday with your family and loved ones. I'm sharing my post today with the other very talented designers on the team who have all added a sweet and personal Christmas greeting. For my project I've turned my Christmas village shabby chic using paint and glitter and flocking to create a dreamy effect when nestled in between the vintagy trees I shared in a previous post.

As you can see...the Juliet Lace in Natural was the perfect dressing for the front of my little shelf. It's become my new favorite : ) I can't wait to see what other fabulous trims I can collect from Really Reasonable Ribbon in the new year. I'll also be on the lookout for more little houses to add to my village collection.

"Big Man" bottles...

Happy Christmas Eve to all of you!

I apologize to you for being late today...the weather here in Texas has this Mama laid up in bed with the flu!  I don't have time to be sick!  LOL

My son told me..."You can't be sick...You are Mom!  You're not allowed!"

I don't know how true that is, but it does seem to have some validity!!  

SO, today I am sharing with you a little project that I did as a white elephant gift for a group of adults.

What you see here, is a 4 pk of wine coolers. 

Of course, I couldn't leave it just plain!

I wrapped the bottles in red to cover the label and added in some black checker board ribbon for the belt, and the red checker board ribbon at the top for a "bow tie" of sorts.

I painted the cap black and voila!  

Looks like the "Big Guy" in red! 

This was the hit of the party!

 Merry christmas to you all! I can't believe Christmas Eve is just a day away! I am taking a break from baking to share a card tutorial for Really Reasonable Ribbon . A fun , frilly, feminine little number using gathered ribbon. I used the pink gingham and grabbed a needle and thread and started stitching nice large stitches through the center of the ribbon. I used approximately a yard of the gingham. Once I was done I gathered it up by pulling the thread through and got it nice and ruffley. Once I had it looking the way I wanted I covered my cardstock with my chosen papers. From there it was just a matter of laying it out shaping it into a heart. I used hot glue to adhere it down. Now comes the fun part of adding fun little touches. Paper borders, jellie dots, a couple of stick pins, and a fun banner with my sentiment. What do you think? I think it turned out pretty stinkin cute. Hope you have enjoyed! Well my friends...I am headed back to the kitchen to make my fantasy fudge. Wish me luck! Hugs, cherry

 

Warm Winter Wishes

This little fox from Lawn Fawn is so sweet! I am a big animal lover and I always worry about the wild animals (and domesticated too!) finding a warm place to hang out during the cold winter months - especially during storms. I would love to have a giant ark where I could house them all during the winter!

I stamped the images on X-Press Copic Blending Cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then colored in with Copics. The little snowflake from Hambo Stamps was stamped in Archival White.

I pleated my China Doll silk ribbon below the main panel, and added Spica Glitter pens to the fox's scarf, tail and eyelashes. A little Oyster Baker's Twine and a snowflake charm finish it off.

All the farmers around here are saying we are in for a harsh winter with a lot of snow. We got about 7-8 inches in this one storm this week (Draco!) and I hope they are wrong, but if they're not, I want my animal friends to find some warm hangouts for the duration!

A Wish for Peace

  Hello, friends.  I hope your preparations for the holidays are going smoothly.  It's going to be a quiet Christmas for hubbie and me, which, it turns out, will be OK for us. As I'm sure it is for you, my thoughts and feelings often influence my art and craft.     

  This holiday, I'm wishing and praying for peace in the world and healing for all those that suffer.  Using 1/2 in. Natural Crochet Lace from the Really Reasonable Ribbon shop helped me create this quiet, comforting card project.

Shaping Ribbon with Knots

It's Jacquie here today, bringing you a little tutorial on using a simple knot to shape your ribbon. Yes,  I said knots - a super simple technique that I think gets overlooked! Take a look at this card.

I shaped the ribbon into a heart by tying knots in a deliberate direction. I started with about 36" of the 5/8th inch Hot Pink Double Faced Satin from the December Monthly Ribbon Club assortment. 

I tied a simple knot in the center of the ribbon and then two knots on either side. I tied the knots so that the tail headed in the direction I needed it to to create the top of the heart shape. 

Note that the knots are mirror images, reinforcing the symmetry of the heart shape. If you find the ribbon doesn't want to stay in the knot, use a glue dot to hold it in place. You do not want to pull the ribbon tight!
After adhereing the ribbon knot to the card panel, I tied the bottom knot on one side and cut the ribbon. The pieces are glued together with the ends tucked out of sight.
This little step -by-step tutorial should help: I used some of the red Diagonal Stripe ribbon to show you how easy it is to tie a knot and turn the ribbon in the shape you want. The secret is not to pull the knot tight, but to allow it to lie flat. 

The red diagonal stripe is easy to keep flat - with some ribbons you might want to use a glue dot to hold the knots in place while you are working. Depending on the ribbon, 5 to 6 knots will bring you full circle. I cut the ribbon and glue the end under a knot.

Here is a card where this technique is used to make a holiday wreath. Instead of cutting the ends, I tied a bow in place of the 6th knot.

With this wreath there is a lot of space between knots. On tag 18 of my Snowflake & Ribbon Advent Calendar, you can see a wreath made from 5 knots tied one after the other with no space in between. Double faced ribbons are best for knotting, because the ribbon will flip front front to back as you tie knots as you can see here when I used the Chevron Grosgrain Wisteria ribbon from the December Monthly Ribbon Club.

You may want the look of alternating color and pattern, so I encourage you to play around a bit. I have a card with a ribbon knotted into a chevron on my blog today showing what you can do by alternating the direction of your knot.
