Pinks and Browns

Happy Wednesday to Everyone!

For my Wednesday post I wanted to show my card using different styles of Pinks and Browns.  I would have never thought pinks and browns would go together, but I absolutely love the color combination.  I used 3 different types of pink w/brown grosgrain ribbons, brown wrinkled ribbon and light pink mini ric rac.  I made flowers with the grosgrain ribbons and added an amber vintage brad into the centers.  I also placed an amber vintage brad in the center of the brown bow.

Card Stock:  Pink, dark brown, medium brown and tan (TAC) and prints (DCWV-The Glitter Mat Stack).

Die-Cuts:  Nestabilities Ovals/Scallop Ovals.

Punches:  Martha Stewart Branch punch.

Inks:  Sakura Stardust Gelly Pen (ribbons on gown, staff and headband).

Embellishments:  Amber Vintage Brads, Light Pink Mini Ric Rac Ribbon, Pink w/Brown Swiss Dots Grosgrain Ribbon, Pink and Brown Diagonal Stripe Grosgrain Ribbon, Pink w/Brown Center Stripes Grosgrain Ribbon and Brown Wrinkled Ribbon by May Arts.  All the ribbons are from Really Reasonable Ribbon along with the Vintage Brads.

Bow Holder

Hi everyone! I know that lots of you probably have little girls! If you do, you know that little girls seem to have loads of bows and clips for their hair. When my daughter was small, we needed a way to corral her endless supply of hair bows. I made a couple of these and hung them in her room. This is another super simple idea! It's also really inexpensive to make. Unfortunately, getting a good picture of it isn't so simple! :)



This is made from a yardstick! Easy to find and cheap, too! Here are a couple of close-ups so that you can get the idea easier.





To make it you will need:

1 1/2" ribbon
7/8" ribbon
1 piece of 12x12" paper
Small piece of wire
Glue gun
Mod Podge or other glue
(optional: paint or ink)

How To:
1. Paint or ink the edges of your yardstick.
2. Cut paper the width of your yardstick and glue or mod podge to the front.
3. Starting at the top, hot glue the ribbon every 2 inches. Leave a loop in between each glued spot.

4. Glue a round bow to the top and a simple bow to the bottom.
5. Glue a loop of ribbon to the back for a hanger.

That's it! Now... how does it hold all those bows? Simple clip them to each loop. This is actually so much cuter when it's full of all different kinds of clips. It makes an adorable birthday gift, too. I make a few clips with bows to add to it and you have a simple and inexpensive birthday gift.

Now... How to make a round bow and a clip? Here are some instructions for that. After you make a few to get the hang of it, there is nothing to these. Speaking of birthdays... how about making a clip to attach to the package instead of a storebought bow? It's like an extra little gift!

For an amazing friend

Hi folks, I'm happy to present you with my card for my Monday project today :)
It's quite unusual, for I used no designer paper whatsoever. It's all stamped/drawn... something that I do only occasionally, and mostly with CAS cards. This time I wanted to challenge myself. How do you think I managed? Check it out:

Pretty in Pinks and Browns

Hey there everyone and happy Sunday. The weather is fantastic here in Southern Saskatchewan and we are all going across the line to do some shopping. I love having the US border so close to us. Who doesn't love shopping? hehe

Today I've got a very feminine and romantic card to share with all of you. I used the Bitter Sweet paper line from Basic Grey and the stamp is Inkadinkado. When I thought I finished the card, I sat and stared at it a moment, realizing there was something missing. That is when the pretty Tim Holtz charm came out and I tied it into the lovely Brown 1/2" Wrinkle Ribbon that I stitched down the middle to create a bit of a gather. I then added some Latte Pearls to the corners too. Did you know that Really Reasonable Ribbon has a wonderful collection of embellishments available? Kaiser Craft Pearls and Epoxy brads are some of my staples when I'm crafting.

Make A Card Using Large Ribbon Instead of Designer Papers!

Hello everyone!

True :D here.

Today I am showing you a card done with several types of ribbon and trim instead of designer papers.

I used Bazzill Swiss Dots in Clover for the base with some Kraft pieces for contrast.

I don't normally use ribbon that is this big but I thought it would work great as a kind of second focal point.

The fun Ribbon and trim are of course from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

They are:

2.5" Jute ribbon in Lemongrass

7/8" Red Gingham

Jute String

The image is from "I Brake For Stamps" and is colored with watercolors.

The sentiment was added with a Sharpie marker.

The bow was tied using the AWESOME Bow-Easy.

Banner Tutorial!

Hey all, Susan here! I just received my new stash of ribbon this last weekend. I always love it when it comes, because I know I am going to just love all my goodies that I get to play with on my layouts! I ordered jute string this last time, and I went to use it right away. As you can see by my layout, I made a cute little banner with it.

I thought you guys might like to know how I made the banner. It was so easy, that anyone could do it!

Step 1

Choose your pattern papers that you are going to want to make your banner out of, and cut triangles to the size you wish your banner to be.

Step 2

Now take your cut out triangle and glue it down to white cardstock. Now cut around your colored pattern paper triangle with scissors. I used "pinking shears", but you could use other scissors for a different shape such as scallops if you prefer.

Step 3

Finally you will take your jute string and glue it down on your little triangles in a long row. Now attach it to your project as I have done in my layout below. See "easy peasy". Anyone can do this!

Big Bow Embellishments

Don't you just love to add jaw-dropping gorgeous bows to your projects? I do, and I discovered something a little different this week. I wanted to center my image between two large bows for balance, but all of those tails would have been in my way. So what I did was tied my bows using this fabulous 1 1/4 inch wide Silk Burgundy ribbon - then I punched a hole on my cardstock in the area that I wanted the center of my knot to be, and I just pulled the tails through the hole, and taped them to the underside. Not only did this hide my tails, but it also made my bows stand perfectly .

I hope this will inspire you to give it a try!

Ribbon Roses and Yo-Yo Flowers

Good Morning Everyone!

This morning I bring to you my card that I have done by creating ribbon roses and yo-yo flowers.  The ribbon roses are my first attempt after watching a tutorial done by one of our fabulous Design Team members, Cheryl Walker.  Thank you, Cheryl!  They are definitely not as good as yours but your tutorial helped so much on how to make these roses using wired ribbon.

The ribbons I chose to use on my card are the Moss Green Leaves Ribbon by May Arts, Bright Pink Elastic Plaid Ribbon by May Arts (used to make 2 Yo-Yo Flowers), Wired Solid Iridescent Mauve/Sage Ribbon (used to make 2 ribbon roses) and Green/Pink Jute Stripe Ribbon.  All these ribbons can be purchased from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  I also added 2 White Pearl Vintage Brads onto the centers of the Yo-Yo Flowers.  These too can be purchased from Really Reasonable Ribbon. 

Here is my card using On the Phone image from McMahon Five Designs.

Digital Image:  On the Phone from McMahon Five Designs (colored image with Prisma color pencils and OMS, cut image out and popped up with 3D foam squares).

Sentiment:  Friend to Friend sentiment from Sentiments by VL Designs.

Inks:  Sakura Stardust Gelly Pen (heart).

Embellishments:  White Pearl Vintage Brads, Moss Green Leaves Ribbon by May Arts, Bright Pink Elastic Plaid Ribbon by May Arts (used to make 2 Yo-Yo flowers), Green/Pink Jute Stripe Ribbon by May Arts and Wired Solid Iridescent Mauve/Sage Ribbon (used to make 2 ribbon roses from a tutorial that one of Really Reasonable Ribbon Design Team members, Cheryl Walker showed how to do).  All the ribbon and vintage brads were from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

Tuesday Idea

I have a fun little idea for you. When my daughter went to college, we couldn't find a lamp that went with her colors in her dorm room. After much searching, I came up with the idea to use ribbons to alter a lamp for her. She loved it! Unfortunately, it never came back home so I can't show it to you. So... I liked it so much that I made one for my scrapbook room. This one lives here, so you get to see it!



My favorite thing about this little idea is that it can be any colors you want. There are no limits to this one and it is such an inexpensive way to add some fun to your space. I picked this little lamp up for $10.00.

Here are some close-ups to show you the details. All you have to do is cut two pieces of ribbon and tie them around your lampshade. Keep repeating until you have them the way you want them to look. FAST and EASY!







I chose to go with the colors of my scrapbook room and just use ribbon. Some other ideas for this one are to add some ric-rac. Just use knots instead of bows. Try going elegant. Nothing says elegant like a wide satin ribbon. Maybe tie buttons to the bottom. I think that would be such a cute idea for a baby's room. The possibilities are endless! Be sure to check out the store and pick out your favorite ribbons! Speaking of endless possibilities, you will find them in the store!

Good ole' ruffles

Good morning, my dear ribbon lovers! Today I'm bringing you my Monday project. Once again I reached for ruffles - the technique that adds dimension, like nothing else. Me loves ruffled ribbon!
I used some beautiful Sheer Square Print in Pink & Brown, and finished it off with a bow made out of a Brown Wrinkled Ribbon.

Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around...

(or orange, or green, or....) that old chipboard.... Ok, so you may be scratching your head about what I am talking about. Truth is I'm old! This is referring to a song from the 70's, and I am sure that most of you have never heard of Tony Orlando and Dawn or his famous song "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Oak Tree"- let alone even born then!! Anyway, that's my set up for my post, and I'm sticking to it!

This week I tried again to think of a new way to use my ribbons on a layout. I decided it might be kind of different to tie it around my chipboard frames. I really like the way it turned out too. I also like the way the staggered ties look as well. I have to say I am having to push myself to come up with different and unique ways to use my ribbon. I'd hate for you guys to think I've gotten boring!!

For this layout I used my adorable, bright and fun Swiss Dot Ribbon Assortment pack from Really Reasonable Ribbon. Of course, there are plenty of fabulous ribbons in the store, and this idea would work on an elegant lo as well using lace... Again, I hope that you have been inspired!

It's Thursday, so that must mean that it's my day to share a little inspiration for Really Reasonable Ribbons. School is now out here, and summer is getting into full swing. To me, nothing says summer more than getting ready for the 4th of July! My Mom's birthday is on the 4th , so we always have a big family celebration. One of my best memories of this celebration was a couple of years ago at our beach house, (it's on a very small island in South Carolina). Every year, they hold a golf cart parade - and everyone on the island goes ALL OUT to decorate. It just reminded me of a simpler day and time, which was great!
For my card, I used some of the Wired Woven Check Red and manipulated the wires to scrunch the ribbon. I added some bows of America Stripe Grosgrain. The image is one of the newest from Karen's Doodles.

Ribbon Bumblebee

Welcome to my Wednesday posting!  This week I made another ribbon bug – a bumblebee to embellish my card.  I used 3/8” Black and Sunflower Grosgrain Ribbon to create the bee and White Organza Ribbon to make the wings.

 

Cut the ribbon into 5 sizes:

• Sunflower - 4 inches
• Black - 3 1/2 inches
• Sunflower - 3 inches
• Black - 2 1/2 inches
• Black - 1 inches (nose of bumblebee)

I sealed each edge with a BIC lighter so that the ribbon would not unravel.  Then I took each ribbon piece and sewed the edges together to form a loop (basically made a small X stitch).  Once all 4 pieces of ribbon are sewn I started to place the ribbons on top of each other beginning with the smallest black loop and ending with the largest sunflower loop.  Make a X stitch thru all four loops.  This forms the shape of your bumblebee.  Then put some glue on the tip of your loops.  Take your 1” black ribbon and lay it across the point of the loops.  Bring the edges of the black ribbon to the back and tack down with glue.  Once this is completed you can add some wiggle eyes.

Then cut a piece of White Organza 3 1/2” long.  Find the center and bring each end of the ribbon to the center overlapping each end a little.  Put a gathering stitch, pull stitch tight and tie a knot onto the back.  Glue the wings onto your bumblebee.  Now you have an adorable bumblebee as an embellishment to any card/project.

Sentiment:  I Wish You a Bee-tiful Day. sentiment (Assorted Bug Circle Words) from The Cutting Cafe.

Card Stock:  Yellow and black (TAC), black print (DCWV-The Glitter Stack) and 2 prints (My Mind’s Eye-Home).

Die-Cuts:  Nestabilities Circles/Scallop Circles.

Punches:  Marvy Round Corner Punch.

Inks:  Sakura Stardust Gelly Pen (bumblebees’ wings).

Embellishments:  Wiggle Eyes, Black Grosgrain Ribbon, Sunflower Grosgrain Ribbon, White Organza Ribbon and Yellow Gingham Ribbon (All Ribbons are from Really Reasonable Ribbon).

Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge #2

Hello Everyone and welcome to our second Challenge.

First off, thank you to each and every one of you for making our first challenge such a success. We had some absolutely beautiful pieces for the Masculine challenge and it was pretty tough to pick our top 3 projects and our winner. But every challenge has to finish and we are thrilled to announce the top 3. Each of you can proudly display our Top 3 Badge located on the left of the blog. Great Job ladies.

First Robin made an absolutely "Swell" card and the wave technique she used on the ribbon was Narly Dude.

Next we have a wonderful round card that Gloria created. Her use of color and the double ribbon was simply beautiful.

And Our last top 3 finisher is Pam. This card made us smile ear to ear. The coloring is fantastic, we loved the distressed look and the trim was the perfect catch for this beauty.

Way to go girls, your work is amazing!!!

Now onto a super sweet card by Mindy. Look at how this card just pops with that border treatment. Talk about a fresh way to make the Yellow Striped Grosgrain come alive.

Cheryl always gives great inspiration with her wonderful cards. Look at the amazing gathering and those tiny flowers! This one uses the 1/2" and 1.5" Blue wrinkled ribbon.

And lastly, we have this colorful piece by Kerri. This girl sure has an eye for great color combinations and I love how she selects her ribbons so perfectly for her artwork. Lime Green Grosgrain striped leaves and a wonderful border in Plaid Ruffle Yellow, make this card POP

Weaving ribbon

I'm sorry it's going to be a very quick post, girls - I'm squeezing it in the tight schedule of my holidays... :)
It's Monday, and it means that it's time for my weekly project.
Here's what I whipped up, using the yummy striped ribbon, available in the Really Reasonable Ribbon store. Bold, graphic ribbon is perfect for playing the lead role on the card. How about some weaving?

Supplies: cardstock: Quill; sentiment sticker: SRM Stickers; ink: Versa Color (Pink); rhinestones: Top Line Creations; chipboard frame: Collections; extra thick white embossing powder (XTEE); ribbon: Pink Licorice Twist Stripe Grosgrain; other: button, twine

I covered a plain jane chipboard frame twice with an extra thick embossing powder, to achieve the smooth, glossy look.
