Ribbon Rosette Tutorial with Kathy Clement

Hello Ribbon Lovers everywhere!  It's Kathy here today to share a really quick and easy tutorial with you . But first, let me ask you, did you all survive Black Friday?  Did you shop 'til you dropped or stay home and play with ribbon and paper?  If you are getting started on your Christmas card stash, I think you'll really enjoy today's Ribbon Rosette tutorial.  This is a really quick and easy way to add elegance, texture and shine to your cards, and these rosettes make great gift toppers, too.  So let's get started!

This is a photo of my finished card.  It is a 6" x 6" top fold card made with papers from Graphic 45's new Christmas line, Twelve Days of Christmas.  I wanted to create a card that had the appearance of a gift wrapped package.  And even though it was pretty without the rosette, it did look a little unfinished.  So I grabbed a spool of gorgeous Silky Crush Champagne Ribbon and some vintage Chloe Natural Crochet Lace and went to town!

The first thing I did was to use 1/4" Scor-Tape to secure my 1 1/2" Silky Crush Champagne ribbon around the center of the card.  I then placed another line of Scor-Tape above and below the ribbon and added the Chloe Vintage lace.  This ribbon and lace combo is especially elegant and wonderfully vintage.  I tapped a white doily with Antique Linen Distress Ink and glued it to the center of my card as a base for my ribbon rosette.

I cut a 24" length of the Silky Crush Champagne ribbon and then sewed a double row of gathering stitches along one side, about 1/4" apart.  I know all sewing machines vary, so check your instruction guide before you attempt the following.  My Brother sewing machine said to lower the tension for the bobbin thread in order to create a gathering stitch. Then I gently pulled on the bobbin thread while gathering the ribbon together.  When I had the ruffles as tight as I wanted them to be, I simply joined the right sides together and whip stitched them closed.  Then I trimmed off any excess.    I followed this same procedure with the Chloe Natural Crochet lace, but I just stitched one row of gathering stitches.  I used my glue gun to join the two rosettes together and then added a sparkly amber button that was threaded with Christmassy Gold Metallic Baker's Twine.  This tidy little bundle was glued together with my glue gun and then added to the center of the card.

I've seen rosettes like this sell for close to $3 apiece in craft stores, but you can make your own in about 10 minutes for mere pennies.  And, you can theme them to whatever color works best for your project.  How cool is that? I did make a custom envelope for the card, and I finished the inside as well:

I just couldn't help myself...and had to add Chloe Natural Crochet Lace to the inside as well. I hope you will try making these easy rosettes yourself...and of course, I hope you will use gorgeous ribbons, lace and Baker's twine from Really Reasonable Ribbon when you do. Puppy Love By Jenn Cochran

Happy Thanksgiving to all the American friend and followers of RRR.  Hope all the rest of you are having an extra special day too!!!   

I have switched gears and have started my Christmas cards.  Today I have a simple holiday card featuring one of my favorite RRR ribbons, Wired Woven Chevron Ribbon Black/White.  This ribbon is so much fun to work with, especially if you use the Zutter Bow It All. It is sold at the RRR storefront and is a must have if you love ribbon as much as I do!  I have to be honest it makes bow making a cinch!

Merry Christmas Advent Countdown Tag (set)

Hello Friends!! I hope you are having a fabulous day! Today I would like to share with you a Christmas Countdown tag that I created using a lot of wonderful goodies from Really Reasonable Ribbon!

I started out with a couple sets of collage sheets that I designed. My Christmas Advent Calendar Focal Images & Christmas Pillow Box and Tags sheets. I cut out all of my pieces and then inked them with Ranger's Vintage photo distress ink.

I used a Vintage Bonanza Button, peppermint baker's twine, red satin, red dots, crochet lace as well as Juliet lace, Deep Ivory Mulberry Roses and Moss leaves all from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  

You can see all of my ribbons and lace peeking out from the left.  In addition to those, I did also use a red mulberry rose.  Of course lots of beautiful glitter!

 I topped off my tag with a beautiful Red Seam Binding bow made with my Bow it all Tool!  I used the red diagonal trim as my hanger.

One last look at my finished piece.

This is my set of "I'm Thankful Cards." I used my Bow it all to create a fabulous bow!  I just love how it turned out!!

We OWL Give Thanks Treat/Place Card Setting/Video

Hello everyone.  Today I am sharing my Treat/Place Card settings for Thanksgiving Day at our house! These were designed using Toilet Paper Rolls, Really Reasonable Ribbon, & CottageCutz Dies!

To start with, I cut 1 toilet paper roll into 3 pieces.  This will give me 3 bases.  I used a total of 3 Toilet Paper rolls for 9 of these. Next I covered them with DCWV Design Paper and used Really Reasonable Ribbons Scor-Tape in 1/2".  It made it easy to attach the design paper to the rolls. Next I prepped all my CottageCutz Acorn OWLs and added TURKEY Feathers by using all CottageCutz Mini Leaves. Next I used Really Reasonable Ribbon Mini Ric Rac along the bottom in brown, and then added some RRR Buttons. OOoooo I forgot to add the darn BOWS to these, omgosh! LOL  Oh well, they are going BowLess....hahahahahahaha

Next I used Plastic Saran Wrap to wrap up 4 Reese's mini cups, tied them up with Brown Seam Binding, and then added a ticket for the NAME using Hemp in Natural.

These were SUPER FUN to make, and this is my 1st year doing a place card setting for Thanksgiving! :) I thought it would be neat to add some candy for a treat! Super FUN!!! You will have to try these!

Christmas Shadow Box Tutorial

This is a great time of year to create seasonal decor and gifts...and if you can recycle an item from your home and re-create it for a new life...all the better. That's what I did here. I repurposed a shadow box frame that used to live in my kiddos nautical themed bathroom. I took all the goodies out..(saving them for another project lol) and gave it a quick coat of spray paint. I'll show you the finished frame first...then I'll show you how I decked it up for the holidays!

Isn't it shabby-tastic!!!! I quite love how it turned out : )

After the painting...I added a sheet of neutral background paper.

Then I added a real authentic vintage sheet music page...has a beautiful Christmas theme.

Next was a strip at the top and bottom of a sweet striped and flocked paper.

This pretty glittery ornament was a fabulous find. It fit perfectly and has my favorite holiday sentiment.

I added many spacers to the back of this printed vintage image so I would have enough room for the ornament....plus I like the depth it adds. I Stickled this image to accent the details.

Two purchased poinsettias that I trimmed a fair bit to get them to fit nicely and not obscure to much of the image.

Last but not least two beautiful bows from Really Reasonable Ribbon Trims. Red Plaid and Snowflakes on Red Satin. Topped off with a glittery pinecone.

Hopefully this will encourage you to look around and see what you can reuse to make a super special addition to your holiday decor...or a gift for friends and family.

Christmas Angel

Good morning!  Jessie here and it's my turn once again to inspire you and show off some of this gorgeous ribbon from RRR!
I just recently got the Bow-It-All, and let me tell you...it IS as great as you've heard.  I thought my bows weren't too bad before, but now they come out absolutely perfect! The bow I made on this card would never have been as nice without the Bow-It-All because the center would have come out too wide.  I can't wait to make a bunch of fancier bows!
Here's my card, so you can see what I'm talking about...

Can you believe that when I started out I intended for this to be a masculine Christmas card?  Before I added the flowers, I showed it to my hubby and asked him I should add the flowers after telling him who this was for.  He looked at me like I had 2 heads.  
"That's supposed to be a 'man' card?  With the doily, bow and lace?!"
I guess he missed the jeweled frame...lol.  So I added the flowers and officially called it girly!
Here's a tip for you:
When I use wide ribbon to make these embellishments, like I did here with the jade grosgrain, I use a glue gun to make my loops.  I used to use my sewing machine, but I always had a hard time getting my loops the exact same size as the one before it.  As a perfectionist, I prefer my glue gun method and no one is any the wiser since I always top it off with another ribbon, or in this case, lace.
Here's a little pictorial tutorial on how I do these.  Excuse any glare from my  worktable and the bluriness of  a few of the photos.  I was trying to snap pics quickly so my glue didn't dry on me.

My strips of ribbon here measured about 2 3/4" each but you can use whatever length works for you.  Generally, the wider the ribbon the longer your strips need to be to give a good loop.
  Place glue at about half way to the edge of your ribbon strip.  

  Fold over, being careful to press down just the center line.  You don't want your strip to be glued together completely in half.

And this is what it looks like once I glue those strips down.  A train wreck right?!  But once I add that sentiment, you'd never know it.

altered bell tart pan ornament

   

      Hello and Happy soon to be Thanksgiving!  Cherry here to share a little tutorial on creating a unique ornament that you can keep for your tree this year or give as a gift. So many fun things that you can alter and put your own creative touch too!  I recently found a few little vintage bell tart pans and decided to create some ornaments from them.  I gathered some goodies including some oh so yummy lace blue seam binding, .  I also gathered up fun embellishments I thought would go well with my shabby blues.    I used my Scor-buddy mini scoring tablet to create an oval rosette and set it aside.  I decided to spray paint my tart pan and than lightly glittered it with mica flakes.  From there I glued my rosette into place and layered with a glitter star and my little girl image with a glass cabochon.  I added some vintage tinsel around the rosette as well.  To the top of the bell I added heaps of seam bindings, a vintage millinary bird, some little baubles, and a large oversize ring clip that I slid a stamped tag and jingle bell too. From there it is simply ready to wrap or hang on your tree!  I love the soft icy blues and silvers!  Hope you enjoy!  hugs, cherry
