Boo Bow!

Good Morning everyone!   I am here to give you a quick tutorial on how I created that Bow from the blog hop using the September Ribbon Club Assortment.  Here is the bow that I created:

It is very literally a RANDOM assortment of ribbons from the 

club assortment and others from the RRR store.

ANd now, for the final step, I added in all of my embellishments.  I used feather boa, a rose, glitter, and some.  You can use anything you choose!  I use buttons, bottle caps, just about anything that will dress up a scrapbook layout will also dress up a bow. 

And in the end, you have a beautiful bow and a super happy little girl that wants to wear it!

"WILD" about hair clippies!

Good morning to all of you!

What a wonderful day here in Texas!  I think the rain may have stopped for a minute...MAYBE...

and we may be able to head out to our local waterpark today.  YAY!

However...as implied, it has been super rainy here lately...

and I have been super busy making hair accessories for a bunch of little girlies. 

My niece is just WILD about m hair clippies, so I decided to make a set for her for her upcoming Birthday.  I LOVE the animal print ribbons that Bonnie has in the RRR Store...they are AWESOME!

SO, here is the set of clippies that I made for my niece using the ribbon and alligator clips...

Valentine's Hair Pretties

Hi everyone!  Hope you are having a great Saturday!!!!Today I wanted to share with you how I made the bowand feather clippies from yesterday's Blog Hop Post.
First, for the Bow, I used the January Ribbon Club Assortment.I used the 3/8 width ribbons...the pink w/hearts, pink w/lips, red w/hearts and the white double ruffle.I made a korker style bow for my munchkin for Valentine's Day. >>>HERE<<< is the detailed tutorial for that style bow.

For the Feathers...

I used:

2 inch heart snap clips

1/8 inch grosgrain ribbons to wrap the clip

*  I did try a variety of the different clips and loved them all, but the heart clip was my favorite to work with...AND PERFECT FOR VALENTINES DAY!!

I have created a simple step by step tutorial for you to print off and use if you

 would like to try to make some of these clips. 

For the clips with Dangling feathers, you will do pretty

 much the same with only a few adjustments. 

I actually have already made SEVERAL of these clips!  

My 11 year old wanted one for ALL of her friends! LOL

Bow of the Month

As most of you have figured out, I LOVE LOVE LOVE to make bows with the Monthly Ribbon Club Assortment.  Each month, when Bonnie sends out the ribbons, I get all giddy with anticipation of what the  ribbon will be.  Each month is fantastic, each month is better than the last, and each month, I CAN NOT WAITto design a fantabulous bow for my daughter!
This month was no exception.  The golds and silvers are GORGEOUS!!!! As I was conjuring up the bow in my head...I kept imagining twinkling stars and Christmas Tree lights.I decided that was the way I would go. And, a Star was born! (figuratively speaking...lol) 

Would you like to be able to make this super easy bow for your special little girl for the holidays?  Well, I have created some instructions that will help you be able to do just that!

You will Need:

November Ribbon Club Assortment

French clip **I used a 60 mm

glue gun

size 10 cotton crochet thread

**Some people prefer a thin wire**

stars on wire

scissors and a lighter to seal your ends

1. First, layer your ribbons alternating silver and gold.

Tie the ends together tightly and clip and seal with the lighter.

2. Remove the hardware from your clip.

Secure your tied ends of your ribbons to one end of the clip, and make a loop, wrapping the thread multiple times to secure. 

3. Continue making the same sized loops wrapping with the thread multiple times to secure tightly.  

*If your thread breaks off, dab the broken end with hot glue securing it to the clip and start again.

*I used 2 different colored threads to show this. 

**I use the thread because it is easier for me to tighten. It doesnt hurt my hand, and it rarely breaks off.  Wire will work also without breaking, but hurts when I pull it tightly.  :)  

4. Once your have finished making your loops, you are going to hide the threads using a strip of ribbon hot glued to the underside of the clip.  DO NOT get glue on the two ends of the clip.  You need to be able to replace your hardware!  

Here is a top view. 

 At this point, you will start forming the fun part of the bow!

5.  Start fanning out your loops, pulling to one side or the other, alternating direction as you go.

6. Now, clip your star wire into 4 inch lengths and fold in half. 

7.  Separate your loops to expose your threads.  This is where you will place a dab of hot glue and add your stars at the fold. Do this randomly all over your bow until you have satisfied your need for stars. :)

Once you have added all your stars, don't be scared to fan them out and re-situate your ribbons to the perfect position. 

 When you are done....

A STAR will be Born!!!

A little side note about the dress....

Yesterday, when the hop officially posted, 

I honestly did NOT have the dress.

I made my regular weekend trip to Wal Mart,

and I saw it. 

THE PERFECT DRESS.

Hanging right out in the middle of the main aisle on display!

How perfect was that!

Of course I snatched it right off that display and brought it home to Skye. 

My husband told me I was Impulse shopping!!! 

I don't think so....

  I think it was more like Destiny! LOLOL. 

Oh Christmas Tree!

So, I was browsing the internet for ideas to make a super cute Christmas shirt for my daughter for her upcoming program at school. I don't sew, so most everything I came across was OUT of the question! I did FINALLY triumph, however!I found an idea for a no-sew Christmas tree...(Well, minimal hand stitching anyway)and it was made of RIBBON!WOOO HOOO! I couldn't have planned it better if I had tried! LOL.Check out this tree I made...

Wanna know what I did???It is so super easy!!!!I broke out a handy dandy needle and thread (because even I have one of those! LOL)and I hand stitched and gathered the ribbon.After I had about 9 strands done, I arranged them in the order I thought would look nice on her shirt.Once I figured out my placement, I used Wonder Under and created my own Iron on applique!For the Wunder Under, you simply read the directions and iron accordingly.

When I had all the ribbons ironed on and secure, I trimmed it all into the shape of the tree.YES...I did trim off the ends of the ribbon...don't be scared to do that...the wonder under holds it all securely.  For any loose spots, I used liquid stitch...

Once I had the tree on and all the ribbon secured, I added my bow to the top.  

I did a quick hand stitch to secure the bow, and then topped it off with the liquid stitch for extra security.  

The whole thing took me a couple of hours, but probably could have been quicker if I knew how to sew and had a machine to do all my gathering! LOL.

It's all good though, because the finished product was cute enough to make my 6 year old jump up and down with glee.  She is excited to wear this for her program at school!

I used an assortment of reds and greens as my base tree including a few 

from the October Ribbon Club Assortment. 

The bow on top is Shimmer Satin Gold.

The tree trunk is 1 1/2 inch brown grosgrain.

And of course wonder under and liquid stitch.

Now...I did find  few things out that I would have done differently had I have known, so I am going to share those things with you all....

1.  The grosgrain ribbon was MUCH easier to work with and made a prettier "gather"

2.  The satins looked more "crunched" than gathered...probably will not use satins again for this type of project.

3.  The wonder under only holds what ACTUALLY touches it.  Everything that was layered needed the liquid stitch.  I would try to have more of the ribbons touch the wonder under before ironing next time.

4.  Last but not least...I would remember to take the all important photo BEFORE I let her dribble her drink on the front of her shirt! LOL

All in all...it was a super easy and really FUN project!

I even let Skye pick out her ribbons, so that helped her feel like it was a joint effort in creating her shirt!

Halloween Bow Tutorial

Thank you all for your super sweet comments yesterday about my Halloween Bow!  I absolutely love to make bows, and I am blessed to have a little girl who loves to wear them!  She actually told her teacher that  "My Mom makes all my bows.  I have one for every outfit in my closet."I had to giggle out loud at that one!  She doesn't quite have one for EVERY outfit...yet! (wink wink)
So, are you all ready to learn how I made that bow?It is sooo easy! I actually used techniques that I have already introduced to you in other posts, so this should be easy peasy lemon squeezie for y'all!
Here is the bow that we will be making using the September Ribbon Club Assortment:

The first thing you will do is make your spikes.  I show them in this post <<here>>

You will make your several pikes in assorted patterns and sizes and seal in your ends.  I used all of the ribbons from this month's club assortment.

When you have 15-20 spikes, you will tie them all together in the center using size 20 cotton crochet thread.  You will tie as tightly as you can about 3 or 4 times to ensure that they are secure.  At this point, you can fan them out and arrange them in any way you want them to lay.  You should have something that resembles this...

Then you will add your spirals.  I showed you how to make the korker bow spirals in this post right <<here>>.  I used all of the rest of my 3/8 inch ribbons that were left from the ribbon club assortment.  I also added in a bit of 3/8 lavender and 3/8 apple green grosgrain.

After I cooked my ribbons, I cut them into 4 inch lengths gathered them all up and tied them all together in the center using the cotton crochet thread.  BE SURE to tie TIGHT.  The tighter you tie, the more secure the ribbons are. You will have something that looks like this...

if you look close, you can actually see my threads sticking out in both pictures where I haven't trimmed them yet.   You will want to trim those! LOL

The next step is easy peasy...Place the spirals on top of the spikes, and...

TIE THEM TOGETHER!  

Tie tight!!

And now you will add your center knot, as shown in this post  <<here>>

Here is what you should have at this point...

In this picture above, you can see that the spiral are layered on top of the spikes, and the larger purple ribbon is serving as my center knot. 

In the photo below, you can see the back view of the bow as I am adding the center knot.

The purple ribbons that point straight up and down is the center knot.  It is hot glued in place leaving only a small space 

at the back open and ready to add your clip.  I always use a french clip, but you can choose any style you like.

This is when you hot glue your clip in place, trim the ends of the center knot and hot glue them in place, and make sure all ends are sealed and the bow looks good. 

Now you will use your fabric stiffener to saturate your ribbons, adjust them to how you like them, and use your hairdryer to dry the chemical.  Your bow is now complete and ready to add your feathers.

Here is what the feathers look like before I add them... 

It is a feather boa that I cut into 1 inch pieces and hot glue into the bow to fill in any gaps.

When I was finished hot gluing the feather boa pieces into the bow, this was my final result!

Now, see how easy that is!!!  I just took techniques that I have already shown you and combined them...and VIOALA!  A masterpiece!  And YOU can do it!
