Fun Technique with Burlap String

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  How much are we loving these cooler days?  Today I thought I'd share a fun way to add fall texture to our card designs. Natural Burlap String is always within easy reach in my studio.  I use this stuff so often that I buy it by the roll!  It ties pretty bows, of course, but it also looks great when you add it as a border on a card.  And it's so easy to do!  

To use this technique, you will need to build your card front before you adhere it to a 5" x 7" top fold cardstock base.  I had a large chipboard frame that was a bit of a Plain Jane.  After adding strips of torn designer paper to the sides, I still wasn't happy with it.  So I wrapped several rows of Natural Burlap String down the right hand side of the panel with the frame on it.  

This looked so good that I decided to repeat the process on the bottom of the frame.  Simply use a small piece of Scor-Tape to hold the loose end of the string on the back of the panel, then wrap on as many layers of string as you like.  I used 5.  Then secure the string on the back side of the panel using another piece of Scor-Tape.  Easy Peasy!

Now top a Copper and Cream Gingham bow with another loopy burlap string bow to add even more texture and a nice pop of color to your card. 

Burlap string comes in a rainbow of colors, so you can use this fun and easy technique with any shade of string.

Fall Bounty Easel Card: Really Reasonable Ribbon, Ciao Bella Sound of Autumn, & Reneabouquets

Hello, Friends!  Today I'm celebrating the season with a Fall Bounty Easel Card.  It's adorned with cozy Copper and Cream Ribbon, Pumpkin Baker's Twine, and Mixed Earth Tone Mulberry Flowers from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  And since we're celebrating, I invited some Reneabouquets paper pretties and Ciao Bella's Sound of Autumn Collection to the party. I don't know about you, but fall colors and images make me feel all warm and cozy inside.  And there's something about autumn that calls for lush colors and textures.

A Peek Inside

I'm not sure when I first had the idea to add a pocket inside my easel cards, but now I do it all the time.  The pocket doubles as a stopper for the easel mechanism, and creates a lovely spot to add little treats and gifts to the card. Fall mums mix perfectly with autumn foliage, so I added this little tag and notecard/tea wallet combo to the pocket. And of course, there's a Pumpkin Spice tea bag and honey stick, too!  It's a must on these cooler fall days. This is probably my last fall project for 2023.  It's time to pull out the holiday papers and make some beautiful Christmas cards, folios, and home decor items.  I'm always a little sad to put my favorite season "to bed".  Fall never lasts long enough for me. Fabulous Fall Critters Easel Card

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  It still feels like summer here in North Carolina, but the calendar tells me that fall will soon be here.  Time to break out those pretty fall ribbons (my favorite) and festive fall papers, my friends!  This fabulous fall critters easel card features one of my all time favorites: Copper and Cream Plaid Ribbon.  Its rich hues really work for fall projects. Pumpkin Baker's Twine added extra texture to my ribbon clusters, too.  It's the perfect shade for autumn. 

I've paired this pretty ribbon up with some 35mm Mixed Earth Tone Trellis Roses  35mm green leaves  and Mixed Earth Tone Chrysanthemums and Sweetheart Blossoms from the RRR shop. 

TIP: Did you know  you can alter your mulberry flowers and leaves with mists, paints, sprays and stains?  It's so easy to brush Distress Stain over these grey roses so that they match your papers.  And you can create fall foliage just by tapping Distress Paint over the surface of the leaves.  Try it yourself, and see  how easy it is to create a custom look for your fall cards.    

Here's a peek at the inside of this sweet card.  I don't know about  you, but I love to add pockets to my cards so that I can tuck in little surprises or treats.

Welcome to the Pumpkin Patch

Hello, Ribbon  Lovers!  Oh, I do love fall most of all!  How about you?  I especially love fall plaids, and I've featured a beautiful Copper and Cream Plaid Ribbon on this Pumpkin Patch card.

I also found the prettiest shade of Pumpkin Baker's Twine in the shop.  It was such a good match up for the Copper and Cream plaid that I could not resist adding it to my bow cluster. 

 Some shades of orange are too, well....orangey...for fall projects.  But this Pumpkin Baker's Twine is just the right hue for fall cards and projects.  

Have you started your fall card making yet?  Some people tell me they don't make fall cards, and that's fine.  But since it's my favorite season, I make a lot of them.  I'm so glad that RRR has such a big selection of beautiful fall ribbons and trims, aren't you?

Copper and Cream Autumn Pumpkin

 Hello, Friends!  It's the most wonderful time of the year!  I'm talking pumpkin season, my friends!  Nothing makes me happier than a field of plump orange pumpkins!  Unless it's a slice of freshly baked pumpkin bread!  Yum! I've found that the Copper and Cream Plaid ribbon from RRR looks fabulous with any pumpkin themed project.  Pair it up with a little Natural Burlap String to amp up the rustic autumn vibe. 

The ribbon looks great inside a card, too.  Use it as a border on top of a pocket.  It makes a handy closure for a little secret recipe card pocket on the top of the card.

This is a fun way to present a few of your favorite "pumpkin everything" recipes, isn't it?  And if you're going to bake pumpkin bread, you really need to have a little tea to go with it.  So I created a cute tea and chocolate wallet then dressed it up with more ribbon.  Cute, right?  A packet of honey and a demitasse spoon complete the service.
