Christmas Card for Someone Terminally Ill or Someone Who Just Suffered a Loss

Hello friends.  Today I am sharing a holiday card meant for someone who is grieving or suffering from a long or terminal illness.  I used ribbon and mulberry flowers from Really Reasonable Ribbon along with digital stamps and svg cut files from Bonnie Garby Designs.

Sometimes happy, merry and joy are not appropriate when a friend is going through a difficult time, but you still want to reach out during the holidays.  Sometimes it's hard to find the right words, so I created a few digital stamp bundles that will help create the perfect card.  I created a 4-3/4″ x 6-1/2″ card with loads of layers. My digital sentiment from Bonnie Garby Designs is my main focal point.  I ran a piece of scarlet Delicate Stitched Satin Ribbon topped with White Satin with Metallic Edges Ribbon across the center of the card.  I topped it off with a pretty bi-color double loop bow and below the sentiment I have added some pretty 15 and 20mm Red Open Roses.

The sentiment on the front of my card is from my Christmas Greetings for Difficult Times Digital Stamp Bundle. The interior Sentiment is from the Holiday Sentiments for the Inside for Struggling with Loss or Terminal Illness.  The background was created with the Geometric Overlay 2 SVG Bundle. With Sincere Sympathy Card

 Hello friends.  Today I'm sharing a sympathy card I made for a close friend.  It's embellished with some lovely ribbons and mulberry flowers from Really Reasonable Ribbon and the digital sentiments are from Bonnie Garby Designs.  

I created a 6-1/2" x 4-3/4" card with a few layers. My digital sentiment from our sister company Bonnie Garby Designs is my main focal point.  I ran a piece of regal purple Delicate Stitched Satin Ribbon topped with white Silver Metallic Edge Satin Ribbon across the center of the card under the sentiment.  I added some pretty Mulberry Roses under the sentiment panel.

The sentiments I used on my card today came from the Sympathy Sentiments Bundle along with the Sympathy Sentiments for the Inside Bundle which I used for the interior sentiment.

Soft and Shabby Chic Sympathy Card

Hello Ribbon Lovers!  It's Kathy here today with a card that none of us ever wants to have to make.  I think sympathy or condolence cards call for extra soft colors and textures.  Sadly, I recently had to make one of these for a friend who lost a dear family member.  There's nothing like a hand made card to say, "I'm thinking about you, and I care."

I just love the way this Pink Center Stitch Burlap Ribbon adds soft texture to this sympathy card.  Tying a thicker ribbon like this is so much easier when using the Zutter Bow-it-All Tool!  Ivory burlap string adds just the right finishing touch beneath the vintage button on the right.

I created this 5" x 6" cutaway card with one strip of 12" wide x 6" wide paper.  By scoring the paper at 4" and 8.75" I was able to create a cutaway front card with an inside pocket.

To make the pocket, simply add a punched edge on the outer edge.  Then glue only the top and bottom flaps to the card base.

This pretty tag is topped with more of the Pink Burlap Center Stitch Ribbon.  I've also tucked in a tea bag and a honey stick for good measure.

Tying Shabby Chic Bows with Seam Binding

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  I made this sympathy card for a friend of the family whose mother recently passed.  I wanted the card to be soft, elegant and very shabby chic. I find that seam binding ribbon makes the most gorgeous shabby chic bows, and is very easy to work with. I thought I'd share some shabby chic bow tying tips with you here today.

This 6x6 card used a mixed media paper from Canvas Corp brands.  The papers are all done in shades of black, grey and white which means you can custom color them.  After inking up the background, I water colored this heart image with Distress Markers.  I wanted everything to be very soft and soothing.  I laced up the center of the heart with Gold Metallic Bakers Twine. Noble Peacock Seam Binding was tied into a loose shabby chic bow, then tucked under a pair of white flowers. 

 

Tying a shabby chic bow is super easy.  I set the pegs on my Zutter Bow it All tool to be 3.5" apart.  Then I wrapped my ribbon around the pegs three times.  Before tying the knot in the center of the bow, I folded the loose ribbon end into thirds.  This helps gather the ribbon at the center.  To add the ribbon to the card, I placed a small puddle of hot glue beneath my flowers, then pushed the ribbon into place with the tips of my scissors.   Because seam binding ribbon is so soft, it folds in on itself and creates this beautiful loopy bow.  

The inside of the card is very simple.  I lightly inked the edges of my designer paper, then added a small journaling card.  This is where I will write my personal note to my friend.

Seam binding ribbon comes in a rainbow of colors, and is a dream to work with.  In addition to the colored seam binding I keep in my ribbon stash, I also have a full spool of both Cream and White Seam Binding so that I can custom color my ribbon to match any project I am making.  I'd be happy to share a tutorial for this custom dyed ribbon.  If you're interested, please let me know in the comment section below.
