Blooming Beautiful Springtime Altered Art

Hello, Friends!  Kathy here with a bit of springtime altered art to inspire your creativity.  I love little decorative boxes.  So I created this lovely little Eileen Hull Treasure box, then decorated it with lots of blooming springtime flowers and elegant  1/2" Champagne Wrinkled Ribbon.

A little box like this one looks so pretty set out on a coffee table or nightstand.  To add the perfect shabby chic touch, why not run a bit of Crochet Lace around the bottom edge?  It's easy to keep in place when you use 1/8" Scor-Tape to attach it.

Here's a look at the beautiful bow cluster.  One of the things I love the most about the Champagne Wrinkled Ribbon is the neutral tone.  Here, it fits in perfectly with all the soft pastel flowers.  It's become one of my all time favorite choices for shabby chic projects.

The only thing I like better than a sweet little box is a sweet little box with something pretty inside.  So I created a tiny Eileen Hull Notebook to slip inside the box.

I've used the same ribbon to create a wrapped closure for this darling little album.

I love the way it looks wrapped around the album spine, too.

I've used it inside the album to decorate a simple page.....

... and to top a little art tag.

If you haven't added this gorgeous ribbon to your stash yet, I can highly recommend it.

Merry & Bright Holiday House

Hi RRR friends! I'm excited to share my latest altered project for the holidays, this sweet little home décor piece that I hope you'll enjoy too! I call it my merry and bright holiday house! Come along and see how ribbons and flowers make everything even more merry and bright!
Different holiday patterned papers was adhered down first, then lots of stickers, chipboard and die cuts were added to each little "room". Some pieces were popped with dimensional foam for a 3D effect. Here's a closer peek inside....
Red Aster Daisy Stems add a touch of realistic beauty to the festive holiday scene. They really elevate a project to the next level.
In my humble opinion, the big bow tied to the top truly makes this piece Without it, it simply wouldn't be as charming or magical. The Delicate Stitched Red Satin Ribbon makes for a very pretty and special bow. I also tied a double bow on the button using Natural Burlap String.
And that's all for me today! Thanks so much for stopping by and allowing me to share my merry and bright holiday house with you! I hope you've been inspired to create something pretty with ribbon for the holidays too!! Until next time, happy holidays and happy crafting!!

Easter Paper Bag Pocket with Tags and Treats

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  It's almost Easter, but there's still time to create this super fun Easter Paper Bag Pocket with Tags and treats!

I love brown paper lunch sacks!  With just a few folds, you can turn one into a card with pockets, a mini album, or a triple decker Easter Treat Pocket like this one.

I also love a pink and yellow color palette for Easter!  This 3/4" Yellow Chevron Striped Twill Ribbon, Hot Pink Quatrefoil Print Satin Ribbon and Natural Burlap String just make this entire project pop!  Throw in some bodacious WOC Pink Chrysanthemums, Earth Tone Open Roses,  English Roses, and Sweetheart Blossoms, and you've got a garden that the Easter Bunny will want to hang out in!

Each pocket is filled with lovely little surprises like these decorated string tie envelopes and itty bitty tag.

I also made a tall tag  and tucked some M&M's into the 4" x 6" string tie envelope.

So if you have some brown paper lunch sacks lying around, get them out and dress them up for Easter!

Rub a Dub Dub Altered Washboard with Ribbon and Flowers

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  Kathy here with a quick and easy home decor project.  One of my favorite leisure activities is going junkin'.  I just love searching for vintage items that can be upcycled.  While out shopping with my sister, I found the cutest vintage washboard and you can bet your life that it ended up in my card faster than you can say rub a dub dub!  I dressed it up with some gorgeous Really Reasonable Ribbon, WOC Mulberry Flowers, Burlap String and some paper pretties from Simple Stories new Vintage Blessings Collection.

Because I loved the typography and the engraved bee, I kept all my decorations very simple and on the bottom portion of the washhboard.

This 3/4" Pink Chevron Striped Twill Ribbon is topped with loopy Natural Burlap String Bows and creamy White WOC Magnolia Blossoms.  The 6" x 8" sentiment panel is stitched onto corrugate paper.  I kept the embellies to a minimum, adding just a couple pieces of chipboard, some washi tape, a few buttons from my stash, mini clothespins and the pretty bow clusters.

And speaking of laundry....I can hear my dryer buzzing, so it's time for me to go switch loads. I don't know about you, but I'm awfully thankful that the only use I have for a washboard is as home decor!  Thank God for my washing machine!

Thanks for stopping by!

Bright & Beautiful Citrus Assortment

Hey Y'all,

Deborah here today sharing a little birdhouse I made with the New Ribbon Club Assortment  for June - Citrus colors. These ribbons are just stunning! Love the bright colors in this monthly assortment they are such happy colors.

Here is my DT project  -

Here is the front of my Birdhouse
For this project I used a wooden birdhouse I pickedup from JoAnn's. I removed the bottom portion of the birdhouse before I painted the wooden circle with Testors craft paint. Once it dried I used the Yellow Maize Taffeta Ribbon to create rosette on the bottom portion of the house and adhered the house to the rosette with the glue gun.
On the mid-section of the house I used this fun Sheer Citrus Dots Ribbon. Such a fun ribbon I couldn't resist using it. :D I created a little ruffle on the edge of the birdhouse. I think it turned out pretty cute. Looks like a little curtain.
I added some vines around the house with some leaves I had in my stash and then added some Sweetheart Blossoms flowers all around with a couple birds.
Here is the right side:
Left side of the birdhouse.
In this photo I wanted to share
how the pretty ribbons really coordinate well with the
Sweetheart Blossom flowers.
Here is the backside of the birdhouse. It just looks so cute like this lil'guy
is nesting in the flowers.
For the top it was a bit tricky. I had to snip off a bit of the top and dig into the roof so I could stick ribbons inside. Once I got the ribbons inside and made them look like they were falling around the roof I added my bow on top. I used Sheer Citrus Dots Ribbon., Maize Honeycomb Print on Satin Ribbon, Citrus Chervon Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Crosshatch on Tangerine Satin Ribbon.
I just love making birdhouses. They are so fun and can be a great home decor or gift for any occasion. The New Citrus Ribbon Club Assortment is just beautiful and so great for projects this summer. To get the supply list or list of other items used please see my Creative Designs by Deborah.

Thanks for joining me today and hope you can hop on over to Really Reasonable Ribbon Store to check these ribbons out! Super Gorgeous!

Have a great day and Stay Crafty,
Hugs

Ribbon to the Rescue: Salvaging a precious heirloom with ribbon

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!

In the wake of our recent move, I was working on getting a closet tidied up today.  In the course of arranging the books all nice and neat, I ran across a family heirloom: my mother's Bible.  (Well, one of my mother's Bibles, that is.  She had several and used them all. ) This one was given to her by my dad in 1969; the last Christmas gift he ever gave her.  A few short months later, he died suddenly of a heart attack.  It remained her favorite Bible for many, many years and was nearly falling apart.  Filled with her personal notes, Bible journaling (before it was a trendy topic) and her own handwriting, it is something I have treasured.  It made my heart sad to see how very dilapidated it had become, and I worried that it might not be around to pass on to our children and grandchildren.  I mean, peeps...it was really, really sad!
You can see that she tried to hold it together with tape, bumper stickers, anything she could find.
The inside had actually separated from the spine.  What to do?

Then, an idea struck my brain!  Dropping everything, I carried the Bible into my studio with me and went to work.  A few hours later, this is what my mom's Bible looked like.
Ta-da!  Ribbon to the rescue!  I pulled out a piece of sturdy canvas, some shabby chic ribbon, crocheted lace, flowers in my mom's favorite colors and gave this precious book a face lift!

The first thing I did was to line the book signatures and the interior of the spine with 1/2" Scor-Tape.  Using the tape on both surfaces worked well, and the pages are now nicely secured back within the covers.
I'm not much of a seamstress, but I managed to stitch 2.5" Cotton Blend Vintage Pink Floral Ribbon to the top, bottom, sides and spine of the canvas to make a sturdy cover that should last for some time.   I also stitched  Debra Natural Crochet Lace along the edge where the canvas and ribbon meet to add a nice finishing touch...and to cover up my not so perfect stitching!  Sorry, Mom!.
I used tea to stain a doily I found in my stash, and glued it in place with Studio Matte Multi-Medium.  Then I used Scor-tape again to adhere my 1.5" Antique Gold Plaid Ribbon to be used as a ribbon closure.  I wanted to do this, not just because it is pretty, but because it helps hold the Bible together.
Then I had lots of fun! I painted a wooden key/door plate and flourish to add to the mix. Next, I die cut lots of foliage from old book pages and sprayed them with TA Olive Mist. I pulled loads of flowers from my stash, and was amazed to find these that matched the ribbon perfectly. The elements were artfully arranged onto the cover of Mom's Bible.  The finishing touch was the addition of a shabby chic bow tied with Fuchsia Seam Binding.

Now Mom's favorite Bible is restored, and more beautiful than ever.  She would have loved this shabby chic cover, the beautiful vintage roses and crocheted lace.  I have displayed it in my Grandmother's bookcase, and it makes my heart happy every time I see it.  Once again, Ribbon came to my rescue!

Isn't it amazing what ribbon can do?

Wooden Deer Hanging

Hey there, ribbon fans! :)  I have a different kind of altered project to share with all of you today. Back in January, some friends invited my husband & I to their cabin in the woods of Pennsylvania for a weekend getaway.  We had such a lovely time, walking in the snow and watching the deer come right up to the house.

As we were putting wood into the stove one evening, I saw this cute little piece that I knew would make 'something' special one day and asked if I could have it.  Our friend handed it right over.

I decided it would be the perfect 'thank you' gift for our friends when a few little do-dads were added here and there.  Really Reasonable Ribbon to the rescue!  Here is that piece of wood, all gussied up and pretty-fied!
The deer image was Mod Podged to the base, topped with a small piece of 2 1/2" plain cotton ribbon, die cuts added, and then decorated with Wild Orchid Crafts mulberry open roses & Chrysanthemums.  The same cotton ribbon was used as a hanging loop and tied with hand dyed silk.

Try something new and make an altered project!  It's so much fun! :)  Be sure to enter our current challenge, too!

Happy Easter!

A most blessed Easter morning to all of you! It is the hope of all of us here at Really Reasonable Ribbon that you are surrounded by your family and friends as we celebrate this most special day! :)
The projects I am sharing with you today are similar to the ones I posted on my blog for the monthly ribbon club blog hop, if you stopped by for that. I had several requests for some of the wooden rabbits I had made, so I was busy these past few weeks getting them ready to hop to their destinations before Easter morning. ;)
The first pair were going to the same house, so ribbons and flowers are similar.

Items used:  pearl pink roses with scalloped edge grosgrain, brown micro gingham, 5/8" robin's egg satin with stitched center, bay leaf seam binding, moss green gingham, ivory burlap string, parrot green netting, spring moss mini ric rac, Wild Orchid Crafts: magnolias, cosmos, lilies, rosebuds, hip rosebuds, daffodils, aster daisies, light turquoise open roses, and leaves.
The next bunny was going to a home that had a similar color pattern, but I tried to mix up the ribbon choices a bit.  This wooden rabbit is larger than the other ones.  It was already packed up and mailed when I realized I didn't get the measurements of it.  To give you an idea, it's actually larger than the aqua rabbit above.
Items used: pearl pink roses with scalloped edge grosgrain, brown micro gingham, aqua seam binding, aqua gingham plaid, celery gingham plaid, ivory burlap string, Wild Orchid Crafts: magnolias, cosmos, cottage roses, daffodils, rose buds, mini sweetheart blossoms, and leaves.

For more detailed information about these rabbits, head over to my blog, "Just Coffee Please..."

Don't forget to play along in our 'Welcome Spring with Ribbon or Trim' challenge! we'd love to see what you make! :)

Yours Truly

Happy Friday ya'll! I am still in the mood for some pink.... enjoying this month's  ribbons here at  RRR.  I always have a stash...a cabinets worth stash.. of things to alter.  I broke out this vintage gold frame and heart and had fun playing.  I used some beautiful German scraps along with diecuts and paper scraps.  I used the diamond satin in rose pink from the ribbon club along with plaid ribbon in pink, and seam binding in baby pink.  I added some roses as well.  What is Valentine's Day without roses?  Love the gold paired with the pink.  Pure old fashion charm!  Enjoy and happy weekend!  Cherry

Garage Pallet Grunge Art

Well life is slowly but surely getting back to normal as we recover from all of the craziness that led up to the holidays....

Today I want to share with you a fun gift I made for my husband.  He loves wooden pallets and the neat things people make with them.  One of  his favorite things to do is look at all of the clever ideas on Pinterest for projects made with reclaimed pallets.

When I saw that one of my favorite online craft stores was carrying miniature pallets, I immediately ordered several so that I could make a Christmas gift for my hubby!  When we would visit the auto parts store, I would find little odds & ends in the parking lot and put them in my pocket.  The same when we would go to the car wash.  Since I am always picking up little doo-dads and putting them in my pocket, no one in my family ever questioned what I was doing!  Guess the pack rat tendencies finally paid off! :)

While most people don't tend to think of ribbons and flowers as masculine, plaids like the blue/gold I used here, and burlap string are perfect for any project you make for a guy.  Neutral flowers also go well.  Most guys like flowers as long as you don't go overboard.  A few can add a nice touch.

I challenge you to make a masculine project (or several!) in the upcoming year.  I promise we'll have some challenge themes here at the Really Reasonable Ribbon blog that will work well.  Grab some plaid ribbon and get busy!  Especially while that amazing sale is going on! :)

See you in the new year! :)
