Ribbon cupcake tutorial

Hello gals! I'm happy to bring you a super sweet project today - a cupcake! I know you're going to love this one, so let's get started, shall we?

To make the cupcake, you'll need:
- one 3" polistyrene ball;
- 1.9" x 7.1" stripe of cardboard;
- 1.9" x 12" stripe of patterned paper (I used paper from October Afternoon Ducks In a Row collection), pleated;
- two chipboard hearts;
- glitter;
- ribbon: Double Ruffles White, Plaid Ruffle Spring Green, Pink Velvet, Light Pink Mini Ric Rac, Leaves Moss Green & Sheer Looped Moss Trim;
- optional: cotton pom-poms, sequins, or other embellies

Start by making the base for the cupcake. Accordion fold the patterned paper, to resemble a cupcake paper holder. Join two ends of the chipboard strip together with a double-sided tape, and wrap the pleated paper around it, applying strong glue. Join DP with another strip of double-sided tape. The finished base should look like this:

Now glue some green ruffled ribbon to the base, to cover the parts that you don't want to see.

Now glue the ball to the base. Make sure that you wait between each step, for the glue to bond.
Start wrapping ribbon around the ball, applying glue as you go. Alternate styles & colours, to make the cupcake more interesting. Wrap each ribbon once or twice around, depending on its width.
Finish the cupcake with two glittered hearts on the top, and a ric-rac tied around the base. Your cupcake should look like this:

You can add extra embellishments, like sequins & pom-poms, but your cupcake will be just fine without them.

Erika does Clean and Simple

Hello there everyone. How was your weekend? Ours was fairly low key, which is always nice. Went across the border to grocery shop, did a little yard work. Nice and relaxing

Today I have a great little card to share with you that is my idea of Clean and Simple.I recently received the 365 Degrees line from Pink Paislee and absolutely LOVE it. I goes so well with some of the ribbons and trims at RRR and I wanted to create a card that showcased them.

Here she is

I used the brown sheer looped trim which is also available in the most beautiful Moss Green, and a lovely piece of 5/8" White Organza. This ribbon is simply DREAMY!!!

Double Double Bow

This cute little "Pansy Bunny" stamp was illustrated by....ME!!!

I am having so much fun doing illustrations. It is so cool seeing other people playing with my images! Tehehehe!

Makes me giddy! ;)

Something else that makes me giddy is getting to play with all of the drop dead gorgeous ribbons from Really Reasonable Ribbon!

The ones I used on this card are Lavender and Olive wrinkled ribbon in the 1/2" width.

I used both ribbons and 2 loops in my Bow-Easy to create the bow.

Scrap It!

When I say "Scrap It" I don't mean do a scrap page, I mean "use those scraps"!!! This last time I did not place an order for any ribbons from the store.  I let Bonnie send me what she wanted to send me.  When I received my last package of ribbon goodies from Really Reasonable Ribbon, she sent me what she called "shorties".  They were the left over bits of ribbon that Bonnie still had available in the store.

When I sat down to do my layout for today, I took at look at them and was immediately inspired to do a layout using just "scraps".  Of course, you don't have to use scraps to do this page.  There are tons of ribbons in the store that would work will with any pattern paper you might have in your stash.  As I said, I was just inspired by Bonnie's "shorties", and this is what I came up with!

Life with You is Charming

Welcome to Thursday, and my day to share with you some inspiration using Really Reasonable Ribbons. I love all of the creative things you can do with this leaf ribbon. When I started looking at my stamps, I envisioned a flower vine twirling through the castle window. I stamped, colored and cut out my window, and added some dimensional dots behind it to raise it up, and wrapped the ribbon around the window frame. I added just a little Flower Soft along my vine, and voila! the perfect flower vine.




For the inside of the card I printed a sentiment from the computer, "Life with you is Charming", and cut it out using a Spellbinders ribbon tag.I then used the same regal light blue organza ribbon with gold accents that I used on the front of the card, to add some interest on the inside.

Military Baby using Moss Green w/White Stitched Edge Grosgrain Ribbon!

Good Morning and Happy Wednesday to Everyone!

Today I’m showing a card I made for my son, Travis who is in Afghanistan at this time. The card will be from my grandson, Aiden. The ribbon I chose is Moss Green w/White Stitched Edge Grosgrain Ribbon. I love using this ribbon and the many different colors Really Reasonable Ribbon has to offer.

Primary Banner

My project today is so girly and frilly!  I love the primary colors and ruffles!  The paper is from October Afternoon.  I used a Blue Gingham Ribbon to string the banner together.  I added Red Linedots Grosgrain, Double Ruffles Yellow ribbon, Double Ruffles Red ribbon and some Yellow Wrinkled Ribbon.
I hope you love it and try a banner for yourself!

Vintage revisited

Hello and happy Monday! It's time for my weekly project for Really Reasonable Ribbon, and I'm continuing with a vintage look... I saw a beautiful card in one of the card making magazines a while ago, that was using organza ribbon. I had a light bulb moment, realizing how nicely organza coordinates with the shabby style. You can find this gorgeous Aqua Blue organza right here in the Really Reasonable Ribbon store - and make sure you'll grab a spool 'cause it's a bargain!
I'm also using one of the beautiful White Pearl Vintage Brads (available here), to embellish my bow. I backed it with three off-white paper flowers, that I sponged with ink.
The frame is made from chipboard, that I glittered with some chunky silver glitter. Bling goes so well with vintage, doesn't it?

Sunshine indeed

Hello Everyone and happy Sunday to you all. We went to the circus on Wednesday night with the children. It was Morgan's first time and she loved it.

Today I'm sharing with you a great little card I created using a few wonderful ribbons available here at Really Reasonable Ribbon.
The White Leaves, Diamond Ombre grey/black and Silver Grey Organza 5/8" all found homes on this card. I love the color combination of white, grey and yellow so much, that I'm painting my new craft space these colors. There is just something about them that makes me happy.

The chipboard flower is from Magistical Memories and if you love chipboard, check them out.

Now without further adieu, here is my little "shine" of a card.

Wired Ribbon Rose Tutorial by: True :D

Today I am going to show you how to make a quick and easy rose out of wired ribbon.

Don't laugh at the video...it was my first attempt!

I will get better with practice...I hope! LOL!

You can use the rose on any project but I used an empty coffee can.

It can now be used for a gift box or a trinket tin. You could also do a new, full can as a sweet gift. Wouldn't that be a great disguise for instant coffee sitting on someone's desk?

It has a red lid so that kind of dictated my color scheme.

The red glitter paper was purchased at Hobby Lobby and is by Craft n Craftin. It is Wine Red glitter cardstock. The DP is a scrap piece that I can not remember who makes. If you recognize it, please let me know. I wanted to tie the rest of the can in with the rose so I added the same Wired Sheer Iridescent Red/Purple, and Moss Green organzas to the sides. Of course you know that the ribbons are from Really Reasonable Ribbons!

I ran them through some pearl ribbon slides. I also added a pearl hat pin to the rose so it can be worn as a corsage if the receiver so chooses.

Easy Peasy!

Hey Everyone!  I want to share with a quick and easy way to add some fun to your layouts (lo's).  One of the latest crazes is bunching or pleating your paper or ribbon on your lo.  Most of the time you would do this by folding or by sewing it.  I decided to try something different.  I thought it would be sort of cool to pull floss through the ribbon, so I could bunch it any way I wanted.  I also thought the added color of the floss would be a nice addition.  Of course, you don't have to use floss.  You could easily use a regular needle and thread to do it as well.  I am going to show you step by step how I did my ribbon on my lo.  You can see the final effect below.

Step 1

Choose your ribbon and floss you wish to work with - tie your floss in a knot at one end and thread thru the ribbon.

Step 2

Stitch through the ribbon - gathering or bunching it as you go.

Step 3

Continue until you have done this with plenty of ribbon to use across your lo.

Step 4

Before you tie of the other end of the thread floss and not it, stretched out your gathered ribbon to the desire effect.  Now you can attached it to your lo using glue dots or staples.

Here is how it will look on a lo.

If you like the look of this, there are tons of ribbon in the store that would work great.  Here are the two ribbons I used today: Green dot and Red gingham

Ribbon and Die Cuts

Hi, It's Gini, and I have another fun project to share with you today, highlighting some of my favorite ribbons from Really Reasonable Ribbon. This is a slider card, so the belly dancer from Whiff of Joy's Scheherazade (1001 Nights), moves across the card, and looks like she is belly dancing! How fun is that? It might be a little hard to read in the picture, but the sentiment under the slider says "Have a Royal Celebration" (also from the WoJ set).

I used Spellbinders scalloped edge frame and wove burgundy silk ribbon through the holes. To me, this looks like some of the wonderful silk saris you might associate with belly dancers. I tied a large bow at the top, and added a velvet vintage poppy with pearl center over the middle of the knot. I love adding flowers, buttons or other embellishments over a large bow for more drama. I also colored my pearl with an orange copic to match my color scheme a little better.



Finally, I thought it would be fun to sew gold belly dancing coins on the edge of my punch.

My First Step Card using Funky Vert Stripe Green/Blue Ribbon

This is my very first Step Card that I created for Aiden’s wonderful teacher, Leticia.  Aiden has graduated from the Age 3 Hippy Program.  Leticia would come to my home every Tuesday with a book and homework for Aiden to complete.  He has done so well in the program that I wanted to say Thank You to Leticia for everything she has done for Aiden.

The colors I chose for this card I thought would be perfect to use Funky Vert Stripe Green/Blue Ribbon that can be purchased from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  I just love the vertical stripes and the many different color combinations this ribbon comes in.  This is absolutely fabulous for any project.

No Sew Flower Cuff

Today I want to show you how to make this no sew cuff.
First, you will want to find a shirt that has a cuff. I chose this sweater that has french cuffs, but you can use any type you would like.

Next, you want to cut the cuff from the shirt.

I chose some ribbons to match. I wanted to make a few flowers and some leaves. I chose Double Ruffle White ribbon first to go across the whole cuff. Then I took some Pink Grosgrain and made some twisty fabric flowers. You can find a tutorial here for the flowers if you have never made them before. I tucked some Green Double Ruffle Ribbon under the pink flowers to look like leaves and add some color.

The next step is to glue everything down. I use Beacon Fabri-Tac. It is super strong and it can go through the wash. You can also sew everything down. I added some small pearls to the flowers for interest.

Shabby chic

Hello folks, hope your week started nicely! I've got a shabby chic card to show you today - this is one of my favourite styles lately. I used on it some of the scrumptious ribbon available in the store: Wine Organza, Gingham Moss Green Micro; and some May Arts Lace. Lace is something that I can't live without... once you try it on your paper crafting project, you get hooked!Well, but isn't it just the same with ribbon? :)
I arranged all pieces together quite loosely, to highlight the shabby look.

Supplies: cardstock: Quill; paper: DCWV, digital; vintage image from the internet; ink: Versa Color (umber, Bark); sewing machine; ribbon: available in the RRR store; string: Papertrey Ink; other: assorted buttons

Magic

Hi Everyone and Happy Sunday. Today I'm stepping outside of my card box and sharing with you a layout that I created using the Pink and Wine Chex ribbon. I have used the sketch from Magistical Memories and the Tulip chipboard piece is from Magistical Memories too.

For the border, I hole punched around the entire piece of patterned paper. Then I looped the ribbon around twice and fluffed it up once it was all threaded. Pretty easy and i think it would work really well on cards too.

Sometimes you need a card quick but just can't bring yourself to go buy an impersonal store-bought card.

Or perhaps you are a beginner or want to craft with a kid. CAS  (Clean And Simple) are great for these occations! Although I usually do detailed cards with lots of coloring and "stuff", I like CAS too.

I created this card for "Really Reasonable Ribbon" It only took a 5" piece of this pretty "Funky Pink and Brown Vertical Stripe" ribbon.  that is part of this months Ribbon Club set. This ribbon is only .25 cents a yard so the piece on this card only costs about .04 cents. Not too shabby for a focal point! You could do a gift set of these for a very nice gift without spending hardly anything!

I picked my ribbon first the found 2 pieces of scrap paper that matched. Not a bad way to use up small pieces either! These pieces are from The Paper Temptress. The colors are Cappuccino Mica Metallic and Mountain Rose Glimmer. The card base is their Heavenly White.

The scallops were done with Stampin'Up's scallop punch and the Cappuccino CS was embossed with Cuttlebug's Dots folder. Add a Prima flower and a pretty button and viola! A beautiful card in about 15 minutes! I also added a Flourishes sentiment from their "Thankful Hearts" set.

Getting All Tied-Up!

Hi, Susan here again! I really had fun doing this lo, and I hope you like it. I just love taking ribbon and using it a different way on a lo. I hope you find my lo inspires you to try something new. On this lo - the background paper came with this little scallop border with tiny holes in it. I took a look at it, and thought it would be really cool to tie little knots around it. I think it really adds texture to the lo.

Really Reasonable Ribbon's May Blog Hop!

Happy Thursday everyone! Welcome to our first regular monthly blog hop!! We will be having a blog hop here at Really Reasonable Ribbon on the 13th of each month, so mark your calendars!


Our design team has some great projects for you today. Some of the girls will be showcasing ribbon from our monthly Ribbon Club assortment, and the others will showcase the ribbon of their choice. I am planning on having a project each month on the blog hop too, so look out!! LOL


This month I decided to stick with the pink and brown Ribbon Club color theme to make this flip flop and headband combo.

I used the pink and brown swiss dots from the monthly ribbon club assortment and I added 3/8" pink and dark brown grosgrain for the main parts of the headband and flip flops. I used 7/8" pink and brown swiss dots and dark brown grosgrain for the bows on the flip flops. Both the headband and the flip flops are made using the military weave. For the headband I first covered the 1/2" plastic headband with a woven ribbon pattern so the inside would have a nice finished look. Then I made my military weave using 3/8" ribbons and glued it on the outside of the braided headband with E6000 glue.

For the flip flops I just glued the military braid directly on the plastic straps and then I sewed the bow on to the center front. Because it was summer footwear, I decided to sew the bow on instead of just using glue to give it some extra stability.

Royal Blue Organza with Satin Center and Moss Green Leaves Ribbons

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

I made this card for my parent’s 45th Anniversary in July.  The color for a 45th Wedding Anniversary is sapphire.  So, I chose the gorgeous Royal Blue Organza with Satin Center to create the bow with my new bow maker from Bonnie at Really Reasonable Ribbon.  I absolutely love how perfect your bows come out.  I also used the beautiful Moss Green Leaves Ribbon and placed flowers punched out from coordinating card stock.  Added some half pearls for the centers and cream color branches.

This card was made for my Mom for Mother’s Day.  I used the White Satin Ribbon from April’s Monthly Ribbon Club.

Go Fly A Kite

It seems that there is a banner craze going on right now. I had some triangle banner chipboard pieces from Maya Road that I wanted to work with. I was staring at them and the new paper from October Afternoon, conveniently named Fly A Kite when it hit me...this chipboard triangle could be a kite too! I took a 4 x 4" coaster and cut it in half placed it above the triangle and glued pretty paper to both sides.
I embellished my kite with a name and ironically, a banner. (I made these for Teacher Appreciation week. Since I am also the PTA President, I rely heavily on the secretaries at school. I do not know what I would do without them.) I lined the whole thing with ric rac because everything is better with ric rac!
The pink ric rac came from the May Ribbon Club! It is only $9 and that includes the shipping! Woot!! 15 yards of ribbon!! How can you go wrong?
Then I cut a piece of jute, affixed it to the bottom, tied on some super cute gingham ribbon to the tail and Viola!
A kite!!

Ribbon flowers revisited

Hello and happy Monday! I hope your Mother's Day was full of love - mine certainly was!
A word of explanation first - I'm sorry for the poor quality of the tutorial, that I'm bringing you today... I've never done one before in the first place, and then I had precious little time to finish it. It was hard enough to hold the camera in one hand, while holding the little things in the other, which also contributed to the photos being blurry. I promise I'll do better next time :)

I'd like to show you how to make a certain kind of ribbon flowers, that seem to be very popular lately. All you need to make them is some ribbon, scissors & craft glue.

The ribbon that I used is Wrinkled Ribbon in Pink, Ivory & Fuchsia, that you can find in our store.

To make four small flowers, I cut:
- four 6'' long pieces of Pink ribbon
- two 6'' long pieces of each Ivory & Fuchsia
For the big flower, you'll need:
- three 10'' long pieces of each colour

For the small flowers I combined either Fuchsia + Pink, or Pink + Ivory together. Combining two contrasting colours adds extra interest, but as you can see, monochromatic versions work very well too.
I started by gluing two pieces of ribbon together, while folding the edges like shown, so that no stray ends are visible later. This is going to form the center of the flower.

Next, preferably using both hands (lol), you roll up the ribbon a couple of times, from the folded side.
(once again, I'm sorry for the blurry photos...)

When you come to an end of the fold, you start to twist the ribbon, as you keep rolling it around. Again, you can see quite well how much volume & interest the twisting creates, when using two different colours. Make sure you alternate between them, so that both colours are facing up equally often.

You finish each piece off, by adding a little glue to the end, and tucking it underneath the flower. Simply trim any unwanted bits, and you're free to use your cute little somethings on a project!
With a little practice, it's easy to make a few dozens of them in one evening, while watching a movie... very relaxing ;)
