Celebrate!

Hey there all you ribbon lovers!  We are going to have a bit of a lesson in Cardmaking 101. grins!

I'm here to show you how to use your purchases from Really Reasonable Ribbons to accent the designs on your cards.  Don't ever feel that you have to use big fluffy bows every single time you make a card (although you most certainly CAN!).  Sometimes it's fun to use the smaller things you can find in the store.  You'll be surprised at how well they actually highlight your focal point, be it a stamped image or sentiment, or perhaps a vintage bit of clip art.

On the card I am showing here today, the digital image of the boots and flowers is our focal point.  The doily serves as a matting piece.

I die cut the sentiment, but needed something to help draw the eye to it.  That is where a little piece of the Judy crochet trim came in handy.  Yes, I do save every little snippet of ribbon and trim! :)  By stapling the piece directly under the sentiment, it draws attention in that direction.  A vintage button adds a bit more interest.

Next we go directly below the image to the piece of polka dot decorative paper.  While the border punch helps add some fun and the scallops are similar to the other shapes on the card, the addition of the pink burlap string helps give a bit of grounding to the main image.  It also adds a nice texture with the great fibers and bow.

Finally we make our way around to the flowers.  The colors pick up those found on the digital image but also give a great texture to the card without overwhelming it.  Notice that the flowers accent what is there.  That is the key.  When using an image of any sort, your embellishments should never overpower and draw all of the attention away from your focal point. (This is especially true in scrapbooking.)  Believe it or not, you can have a lot of embellishments on a project that all still bring attention to the focal point.  Several of the designers here at RRR are fabulous at doing just that. :)

What I love about the Wild Orchid Crafts flowers is how easy they are to adapt to the colors of your project.  The yellow of the  Cottage Rose didn't quite match the papers, so I watercolored it a bit.  I LOVE the way they take the inks! :)   If you don't want to wait for it to dry naturally, just give it a quick hit with your heat gun.  These and similar flowers can be found in the RRR store.

Have a most amazing day!  Jennifer

Life is Better When it is fun: Retirement Card

Hello, Ribbon Lovers! I was recently asked to create a special retirement card for a friend, and they wanted me to do something that really celebrates the big life changes that retirement entails. So I scratched my head for a few minutes, and decided to combine a great sentiment (Life is Better When it is Fun) with whimsical papers from Graphic 45's Steampunk Debutante collection and some beautiful Really Reasonable Ribbon. This card is so full of happy vibes and great techniques that I just had to share it with you here today.

Life is Better When it is Fun Retirement Card/Kathy by Design

See what I mean? The sentiment on this card panel is perfect! The card panel was stitched onto burlap to add a little extra texture. Then the edges were embossed with Metallic Copper embossing powder to add to the steampunk vibe. Layering chipboard, die cut gears, and fussy cut elements from the paper collection give the card front a feeling of adventure and happiness. I picked up on the blues in the paper collection and used my Zutter Bow-it-All to tie a soft, loopy Peacock Alley bow in the upper left hand corner of the card. Metal is always appropriate on a Steampunk Style card, so I used a metal flower from my stash and added in a teeny tiny metal clip to the assemblage.  Both were tapped with Broken China Distress Paint to keep in stride with the color palette.

Sentiments were stamped on the inside of the card, where more papers, gears, and images from the collection are layered up.

If you are new to tying bows, or if you struggle with tying bows, seam binding is a great ribbon choice because it is soft and easy to work with. You can spritz it and crinkle it up for a shabby chic look, or tie a multi-loop bow with ease. It also comes in a whole rainbow of colors in the Really Reasonable Ribbon online store.

Thanks for stopping by!

Yours Truly

Happy Friday ya'll! I am still in the mood for some pink.... enjoying this month's  ribbons here at  RRR.  I always have a stash...a cabinets worth stash.. of things to alter.  I broke out this vintage gold frame and heart and had fun playing.  I used some beautiful German scraps along with diecuts and paper scraps.  I used the diamond satin in rose pink from the ribbon club along with plaid ribbon in pink, and seam binding in baby pink.  I added some roses as well.  What is Valentine's Day without roses?  Love the gold paired with the pink.  Pure old fashion charm!  Enjoy and happy weekend!  Cherry

Heartfelt Love

Hi there crafty peeps!  I am back today to share a Valentine's Day card I made using products from Fun Stampers Journey and Really Reasonable Ribbon

I used my Brush Stroke stamp set to create a fun Ombre Pink to Red background panel.  I then wound Silver Metallic String around my fingers several times to create a "nest" and adhered that down to the middle of the panel.  I die-cut a heart out of white cardstock and popped that up with foam tape to the center over the nest.  I then took my Shimmer Silver Color Splash and made tiny splashes of silver spray across the card and heart.  I covered the entire heart in Journey Glaze and then sprinkled it with Journey Sparkle Dust.  I added some white sparkle enamel dots and clear rhinestones as accents to the card.  I then added my sentiment in black ink to the bottom left corner.  Finally, I took the completed panel and popped it onto a red and white card base with foam tape.  I hope you enjoy my fun and artistic looking Valentine.  Have a wonderful day!

Our question of the month is:
What is your ideal Valentine's Day Celebration?  Doesn't have to be with your honey - could be with a good friend or even just solo!
Okay, my ideal Valentine's Day treat would be hubby making me a yummy dinner at home.  I'm not big on crowds, so going out on a day like Valentine's Day doesn't hold much appeal.  BUT, if someone makes me a great dinner AND cleans up, that would be a BIG WIN!!  :)

Our winner will be selected from the numbered comments on this post on Tuesday , 1/19. Be sure to check back on Tuesday evening to see if you are our lucky winner.

Thanks so much for hopping with us today. We hope you'll stop by and so some shopping at Really Reasonable Ribbon soon.

A Very Colorful Happy Birthday to You Card

Hi friends, it's Bonnie here today with a fun card to share.  We've had some really dreary weather in my area for a few weeks and I needed some color in my life so I went bold today with fun die cuts from Cheery Lynn Designs and gorgeous ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon.
I just love the look of using the colors of the rainbow.  You just can't go wrong with them!
My finishing touch is my very favorite bi-color double-loop bow.  I created the bow with daffodil and tangerine Delicate Stitched Satin Ribbon on my Bow-it-All V2.0.  If you don't already own this tool, YOU NEED IT!  I use it almost every day.
For a video on how to create this fabulous bow, please click HERE.
