Burning Your Fibers

  Hi friends! Over the last few months, I've shared with you a couple of projects in which I scorched my fibers.  Today I thought I'd share a video tutorial which illustrates the types of fibers from Really Reasonable Ribbon that I've been altering and the interesting results. Here's the video: In the video, I share a few project samples in which the fibers have been burned.  Interestingly, rather than imparting a harsh feeling, this action often softens the look of be-ribboned projects. After the samples, I share a grungy card project from start to finish that gets a nice punch of extra texture and freshness with an assortment of burned fibers.

Jute Loopy Flower Tutorial

  Hi everyone.  Bonnie from Really Reasonable Ribbon here today with a tutorial for an easy Jute Loopy Flower embellishment.  It can by used for many different crafty applications and although I love it made with jute string, you can use a variety of different cords and ribbons and get lots of great looks.  

 

I first saw this loopy flower on a blog feed from one of my favorite blogs Stamp Talk with Tosh.  I get tons of great ideas and inspirations from her blog and if you have not visited, you really should!!  Tosha was kind enough to give me her blessing on sharing my take on how to create one of these gorgeous flowers.  I urge you to take a look at Tosha's beautiful card and jute flower that inspired mine.  More great news is that Tosha has agreed to be our guest designer for April.  I can't wait!!

Loopy Jute Flower Tutorial

 

Supplies:

Jute String or narrow ribbon or twine of your choice

ScorTape

Scissors

Hot Glue Gun

Buttons for the center

1" circle of heavy duty card stock

 

 

Cut twelve 2-1/4" pieces and eight 2" pieces of Natural Jute String. Set aside.

 

Begin by covering your 1" cardstock circle with ScorTape.  If you don't have 1" wide ScorTape, you can use multiple strips of a narrower width to cover the circle.  I just fold the overhang up and over as shown below.  Now if you don't have ScorTape and you play nice with your glue gun, I suppose you can use that too.  I have a love/hate relationship with my glue gun, so the tape is the far better option for me.

 

 

Begin placing 4 loops on to the sticky circle as shown below.  The ScorTape is super sticky, so just press it down well and it won't go anywhere.

 

 

Then fill in with two more pieces in each opening....

 

 

until the first round is complete.

 

 

Here I added another layer of ScorTape.  Press it down well with your fingers or a bone folder and peel the paper off to expose the adhesive.

 

 

Now for the second round I staggered the pieces and began as last time with 4 pieces - top, bottom and both sides.

 

 

Now add one additional piece in between each of the first 4 pieces.

 

 

Now I add a big glob of hot glue.  I want to make sure some hot glue seeps down and touches the ends of each piece for extra security. I will also adhere my button or whatever embellishment I have for the center at the same time.  I had already prepared my button stack and tied the little bow made from Cotton Candy Baker's Twine.

 

 

 Now I'm the type of girl who colors in the lines, measures everything (twice!) and has to have everything line up neat and tidy.  That's just how I roll!!  That being said, this flower looks fantastic when it's made in a more random fashion too.  No need to measure out your loops or put exactly 12 on the first row and 8 on the second row.  Play around with it and see what you like.

 

And here is my finished flower.

 

 

Here are a few more I made.  The one on the top left is made using Variegated Pastel Hemp.  This makes a beautiful and more delicate flower. 

 

The top right and bottom left are made with 1/8" Grosgrain. 

 

The bottom right is made with Pink Jute String.

 

 

I did add one extra step of adhering the ends together for each piece using hot glue when using the 1/8" grosgrain.

 

 

It's hard to see, but I mounted this flower onto a ribbon lined Alligator Clip for a pretty Spring or Summer hair clip.

 

 

And this pretty flower was added to one of my Chevron Headbands.

Middy Bitty Bag Tutorial

Hello Friends!!

Happy Wednesday!!

Heather here and today I would like to share with you a tutorial on how to make a mini tag album with the Middy Bitty bag.

Start out with folding your bag in half.  Then put the fold on the 3.5 inch mark (so you are cutting the bag to measure 3.5 inches).

Next you will fold the bag in half again and you will place the Scor tape on your bag in two places (please refer to photo below).

I used the Peachy Keen Lattice background stamp to stamp my background.  Stamp both sides.

I used vintage photo to ink all the edges.

You will want to cut 4 tags to stick out of the top of your bag and 2 tags for the sides.  Top tags measure:  2.25 " wide by 3.75" long.  The side tags measure:  2.75" by 3" long.  I used a punch on my tags below.

Feel free to decorate these how ever you wish :0)
Back to the cover.

I used a piece of digital paper from Gecko Galz for my cover.  It measures 2.25" wide by 3" long.  I inked the edges with Ranger's Vintage photo and used Scor tape to adhere the piece to the cover.

I Placed a piece of scor tape across the front of the album, and then
put the pink diamond ribbon onto the front of the album.  I folded my ribbon in half, and slid the album in between them, leaving an inch of the folded ribbon to the left (like a little handle).  I then put a piece of scor tape on the back of the album to hold the ribbon in place on the back

Next I used an Easter Image from Gecko Galz and the Text boxes I designed myself.  I used the Candi fix it foam pads to elevate the image and text boxes.  I used some art glitter designer glue and a fine tip applicator to apply glue to some of the pink plaid lines.  I added Just peachy glitter.  I used some Juliet lace, moss green leaves and watermelon baker's twine to dress up my cover.

I added some more Juliet Lace, moss leaves and a watermelon baker's twine bow.  Finished off the corners with some Candis.

Altered CD two page Album.

I started out with a few pieces of  Core'dinations colorcore cardstock in pink, bluegreen,  greenblue and light pink and green.
  I used Ranger's Vintage Photo distress ink on all my edges, and pop dots to elevate my layers.  The Rose on the front is one that I painted a while back in GIMP.  I created it into a die cut.  I used some of my favorite Moss green leaves, white crochet lace, pink swirls ribbon and cotton candy & teal baker's twine from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

Another Book using the Bitty Bags

The base of the album was made with the Middy Bitty Bags.  I used 4 bags for this album, which creates 8 side pockets and 3 top pockets.  I have the exact measurements for what you need on my blog post here (I would post it here..but it is too long..lol). Using Stazon Jet black Ink, I stamped my flowers onto my Melon silk ribbon, and then inked it with Ranger's Vintage Photo distress ink.

I used my Crop-O-Dile to punch holes in the top of my three top tags.  Then I used the pink chevron and blue striped ribbons from RRR.  Yes, I inked them with RVP.

Another Album

I used the Yellow Pom Pom trim, Pink Swirls ribbon, light green sparkling ribbon and natural crochet lace to dress up my album.

♥♥♥Easter Blessings ♥♥♥ Candy Container

Hello everyone, Cheryl here with a recycled Laughing Cow decorated container for Easter. On my Treat container I used  ♥♥♥Really Reasonable Ribbon's Beautiful Satin's ♥♥♥.

I used the Diamond Satin Tulip that is also in the March Ribbon Kit. I LOVE this beautiful ribbon and the color is soo pretty!!!! I also used some Pink 3/8"Satin with Iridescent Edge Pink for the Bunny Bow and for around the outside edges of my container.

 ♥♥♥How to ♥♥♥

I took a Laughing Cow empty cheese container(the ones that you find at the grocery store) and painted it using white Paint and some Creative Inspiration Paint in PINK too mixed in. I painted the outside of the entire container and set aside to dry. Next I took some Circle /Scalloped Circle Spellbinders and cut my sizes for the top and inside layering. 

I glued the pieces on and then added my CottageCutz/Peachy Keen Easter Basket Bunny, CottageCutz Filigree Egg, Picket Border Fence. All are glued on except the Bunny and the cloud. I used Foam Squares to attach them. The cloud was a cutout from MLS, and I stamped a SU! sentiment on it. Super easy to make. All the Pearls are from Really Reasonable Ribbon, and they are glued on the egg!

Here is a photo showing the container before and after. 

It measures 4" around, and is 3/4" high on the inside.

I think its perfect for holding jelly beans, mini choc eggs, mini chocolate bars the ones that are wrapped, you could maybe do 2 layers of those.
