With Deepest Sympathy

Hi there ribbon lovers.  Today I have a sympathy card to share.  I find sympathy cards to be difficult to make and I like to keep them kind of simple.  I think this one fits the bill.  I topped the card off with a pretty bow I made with ribbon and string from Really Reasonable Ribbon.
I was shooting for a CAS look, and for me this is pretty 'clean and simple'.  I did use multiple layers but I kept a clean background with the pretty leaf inclusion paper.  I stamped the sentiments and butterflies right on this artist paper.
The pretty die is the Cherry Blossom die from Cheery Lynn designs and I think it's perfect for this card.

Sweet Hour of Prayer Sympathy Card

Nothing soothes the soul like a bit of vintage, a touch of shabby, and the sweet sound of an old hymn. Add some pretty ribbons & trims, and we have the makings of a beautiful card to bring some comfort when a heart needs a hug.
I found a lovely old digital postcard image of a rose cluster that I knew would be perfect for a sympathy card I was making.  When out on an antique adventure a month or so ago, an old hymnal was being given away. I quickly grabbed it because I love to use the pages on cards and other paper craft projects.  A run through the printer and I can use this hymn as often as I like without worrying about running out of pages or songs.

The Edna crochet lace I used is currently out of stock, but there are many others that could easily be substituted.  Forsythia seam binding was distressed with several shades of ink to age as well as lightly moistened and wrinkled before tying into a bow with natural burlap string.  A pale yellow magnolia was lightly painted to match the image and then a leaf added for accent.

More details can be found at this post on my blog, "Just Coffee Please..." if you are interested.

With Sympathy

Welcome back bloggers.  Today I want to share a sympathy card  with you.   I find it very helpful to make a few sympathy cards since it is so difficult to do it during the time of losing a special friend or relative.

A bow or ribbon is always elegant on a sympathy card and Really Reasonable Ribbon has a variety of ribbons and supplies to select to make your cards or projects stand out.  This 5/8" white Satin Stitched Edge ribbon with the antique pearl and silver brad coordinate well.  I made this double bow using the Zutter Bow It All instructions and watching Bonnie Garby's YouTube video.

Other supplies used:
Silver mirror card stock
Bazzill Lavender card stock
Crafter's Companion shimmer white gold cardstock paper
Sue Wilson Designs - Rambling Rose embossing folder and Decorative Frame B and Scandinavian Collection-Copenhagen and Sue Wilson Designs-Delicate Garden set
Spellbinder die

I made my angels out of a mold.  The bird came from Wild Orchid Crafts.

Summer and many holidays are around the corner.  Really Reasonable Ribbon has a variety of gorgeous ribbon and supplies such as Scor-Tape adhesive, the Zutter Bow-It All bow maker, headbands, Wild Orchid Craft flowers and more!  Don't wait and start ordering these supplies now.

Really Reasonable Ribbon for All Occasions

Yes, I love my ribbons.  There aren't many cards or projects I create that don't include some lace, ribbon, twine, or some type of spooled goodness.  That's another reason why I absolutely LOVE Really Reasonable Ribbon.  They have the PERFECT ribbons and trims for EVERY project, and all their products compliment one another so nicely.  Nobody enjoys having to create a sympathy card, but Really Reasonable Ribbon sure makes it easy.
I created this card using a super old piece of patterned paper.  I added a couple strips of vintage sheet music to that, and then added a paper doily onto which I stamped a sympathy sentiment in black ink.  Then.....the fun part - RIBBONS!
I used several of Really Reasonable Ribbon's FABULOUS trims on this card.  First, I added a length of Arianna Natural Crochet Lace across the top of my card, then I got busy embellishing the bottom portion of the card.  I used a small piece of both Cream Seam Binding and Rose Petal Seam Binding, and then topped those with bows made from Solid Wheat Baker's Twine and Deep Solid Pink Baker's Twine.  I also incorporated some of Really Reasonable Ribbon's SWEET flowers and leaves into this card.  I used their lovely Baby Pink Open RosesDeep Pink Open Roses and Wild Orchid Crafts 30 mm Green Paper Leaves.  Really Reasonable Ribbon's many flowers and leaves come in several useful colors and sizes to accommodate all your crafting needs.  You will be pleasantly surprised to see ALL that they carry!
I followed pretty much the same recipe and design on this second sympathy card as I did on the first.  The only difference is that this card has a bit more of a green feel to it.  I incorporated Really Reasonable Ribbon's lovely Bay Leaf Seam BindingTeal Baker's TwineDeep Ivory Open Roses, and 30mm Green Paper Leaves into this one.

There are so many great ribbons, trims, laces, seam binding colors, flowers and much more available at Really Reasonable Ribbon.  Why not treat yourself today?  There's also a super fun challenge taking place on the Really Reasonable Ribbon Blog, and we would sure LOVE to have you play along with us.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a creative week!

More Victorian Calling Cards with Really Reasonable Ribbon and Polly's Paper

Hello, Friends! As promised, I'm back with another trio of all occasion cards featuring Really Reasonable Ribbon and Victorian Calling Cards from Polly's Paper Etsy shop. I used Polly's Victorian Trading Card All Occasion Cards Creativity Kit and loads of my favorite ribbons to make these soft, feminine cards.

Sympathy cards are often the hardest cards we have to make. So I've used soft colors and delicate ribbon on this card. The cutaway card base is embossed, inked and then brushed with Picket Fence Distress Paint to give it a very soft, shabby feel. I lined the card at both the edge and at the fold with a strip of light, airy Lavender Dots Organza.

A simple white satin bow was topped with a double layer bow made with the same ribbon. A delicate lavender cosmos daisy finishes off the bow treatment.

I like to take a little extra time with my sympathy cards, so I finished the inside of this one with more papers from the kit, more embossing and whitewashing, a stamped sentiment and double rows of that lovely lavender ribbon.

This birthday card makes me think of Paris. I don't know why...perhaps it's the touches of gold. I spritzed the papers, image and doily with my homemade gold mist. That glorious bow is made with Variegated Gold Ribbon...which is so luxurious and shimmery....and on SALE! Honestly, the luster and shine of this ribbon cannot be rivaled. I tied that big, loopy bow with the aid of my Bow-it-All Tool, of course.

To add some extra texture, I made a rustic multi-loop bow using a double strand of natural burlap string. That bold pink button is from my stash.

I layered papers, tags and ephemera from the kit on the inside of the card, along with a hand written sentiment. The tag is topped with natural jute string that I frayed with a craft pick after adding to the tag.

This final card is so cheery and bright that you feel better just looking at it. After joining two of the papers from the kit together with stitching, I used some ribbon scraps to create little flag elements beneath the card focal. A sunny bow made with Yellow Gold Diamond Satin ribbon ties all the elements together perfectly.

The rhinestones and stick pins are from my goodie drawer, and the loopy burlap string bow is made with light blue and navy burlap string. Adding a few dark elements like the button, navy twine and brown rhinestones really anchors the card.

The inside is finished very simply with a strip of paper from the kit and stamped sentiment.

I hope you were introduced to some new ribbons today, and learned some of my tips for using ribbon to add the finishing touch to a card. To me, no card is finished until you add ribbon or trim!

Cheerio,

With Sympathy

Good morning, Really Reasonable Ribbon fans!  Today I have a quick post for you to share a sympathy card I made for a friend.

Though I don't normally work shades from the orange family, I quite liked the way this turned out!

For this one, I used a few layers of ribbon across the center.  I think it adds dimension and really makes you take a hard look at the project so that you don't miss anything!
The ribbons I used for my layered strip are 1.5" Champagne Netting, Copper Grosgrain and Delicate Rose Grosgrain Brown.

I used the Copper Grosgrain to make a 2'' double-loop bow with my Bow it All Tool from Zutter.  Then I topped it all off with a spray of assorted flowers.

I hope you enjoyed this peek  at my latest card.  Be sure to pop back tomorrow for more inspiration!
