Kanzashi Flower Inspiration with Video Tutorials

Hello ribbon lovers.  Bonnie here today with some more Kanzashi flowers to inspire you.  All the ribbon, embellishments and hair clips or pin backs can be found at Really Reasonable Ribbon.
All the flowers were created with 1-1/2" wide Grosgrain Ribbon.  I used a couple different Embellishments and RRR carries a large variety of embellishments that are the perfect size for flower centers, whether they are kanzashi flowers or paper flowers.
The first flower is in colors that would be perfect for autumn or winter and would be equally great as a brooch for a coat using a Pin Back or for a hair clip when you add the Hair Clip hardware of your choice.  The center of this flower uses a 14mm White Flower Shape Pearl Embellishment.
Both of the flowers are a mix of petal made following the video tutorials below.

Well, I love purple so of course one of the flowers I made is a pretty purple mix.  You just can't go wrong with a purple and green color combination.  On the center layer of this one I made layered petals following the new folding technique above but I just used the one color.  It's another interesting look.
The center embellishment on this one is one of my personal favorites.  It's a 12mm Glass Bi-Color Wave Cabachon and it some in a pretty mix of colors.  Love Love Love!!

Dreams

Cherry here today! Happy Super Bowl Sunday.  I will be quick here..don't want to distract anyone from the guacamole dip.  I have two feel good cards to share.
Both cards have  to do with following your path.  Been thinking a lot about that in the new year.  I hope to direct myself more deliberately towards my dreams.   Allowing myself more time to walk that path.   How about you?
Love the bright happy colors in these cards.  I used this wonderful orange and white stripe ribbon   that I have just fallen in love with.  I usually don't gravitate towards orange.  Loving it right now.

Well folks that is it for me!  Hugs, Cherry

Beautiful Kanzashi Hair Clips

Hi friends.  Bonnie here today with some Kanzashi hair clips to share.  These beauties are created with 1-1/2" Grosgrain Ribbon and 1-1/2" Gingham Ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon.
I had hoped to have some new videos for you showing you how I made the slightly smaller petals for the top layer along with the best ways to cut your 1-1/2" ribbon squares, but well..... it's summer and there just isn't enough time in the day!
I promise to have the new videos as soon as I can, but for now, keep practicing the basic petal - I have included the original video tutorial at the end of this post.  I can't tell you how much my petals have improved with practice.  The more you practice, the more consistent they are and the better they look.
We are getting lots of new ribbons and other products in at Really Reasonable Ribbon as well.  Watch for a new 'embellishment' category too on the RRR site soon!  I will be offering the larger hard to find sizes of half pearl and a lot of other embellishments that I know you will LOVE!

Minnie Mouse Diaper Cake

For the RRR July Blog Hop, please click HERE.

Hello everyone,
Cheryl here today to share a diaper cake I made to look like Minnie Mouse's Head. It was created for my daughter who just had her baby (my grandbaby Chloey) and for Really Reasonable Ribbon using the Beautiful Grosgrain 1 1/2" ribbons from the Really Reasonable Ribbon store!
Ribbons used:
Really Reasonable Ribbon-  I used Black Grosgrain Ribbon in 1 1/2" thick to go around the head, and the ears. I did them separate, and then attached the ears to Minnie's Head!  Next for the Big PINK and WHITE polka dot Bow, I used Really Reasonable Ribbon's Circus Dots Grosgrain Ribbon in Bright Pink!

Minnie's Head
I used the smallest diaper(Newborn) parents choice to create Minnie's Head!  There are 20 for each ear and 86  for the head.  I had to buy 3 packs of 42 since they didn't have a large box.
Extras- Hot Glue gun, wire, little rubber bands the black ones you get in the hair care aisle. Large folder file rubber bands.
My daughter LOVES Minnie Mouse and has since she was almost 1. So it was no surprise to her Dad & I when she wanted Minnie Mouse stuff for her little girl! We have so many wonderful things to bring to her in California - can't wait!!! Here is a photo of the gifts we are bringing with us. They too have Really Reasonable Ribbon on them as well....hehehehee.  Told you I LOVE using Ribbons!!!  I used the Black Satin Swiss dots, Black Jute string, Hot Pink Satin - LOTS of it.

Thank you for looking and have a lovely day!!
hugs to all,
Cheryl

Altered Gift Basket and Tag for Baby Girl

Woooo Hoooo! It's the weekend!

Here in the United States we are celebrating Mother's Day tomorrow, so I thought it would be fun to share a little project I made for our neighbor who is expecting her second little girl anytime in the next week.

I started with an old fruit basket that hubby & I found on one of our adventures antiquing.  A coat of acrylic paint, sponging with a few more, then several squirts of different shades of glimmer mist, and I was ready to decorate!
The edges were trimmed with a ruffled crepe paper border topped with Priscilla white crochet lace and  wild rose grosgrain ribbon. the same wild rose grosgrain also formed the bow, when combined with  pink burlap string.  You can see that I also used the grosgrain and burlap string on the tag to continue the theme.

The flower cluster is formed with a pink chrysanthemum, pink aster daisies, and sweetheart blossoms, a mini sweetheart blossom decorates the tag.

The basket is filled with diaper bag sized essentials every new mom will need, and she loved it when I delivered it several days ago! :)

Happy Mother's Day to all of you moms out there! :)

Don't forget our current challenge going on, too!

Come Ride With Me

Hey ribbon fans! I know you are going to look at this post and think, "gosh, Valentine's Day is over."  but I'll say right back at ya, "isn't it always time for LOVE?!" grins!

but really, wouldn't you know that when my youngest son came home for a surprise visit this past weekend, he also needed a Valentine's Day card for his girlfriend ASAP! ;) no matter how old our kids get, it's just like back in elementary school when they tell you on the drive to school that oh yes, they need 4 dozen cupcakes RIGHT NOW! ;)

so I got busy in my craft room. really busy. like, the glue might have still been a little itty bit wet when she came by to pick him up to drive him back to school! but it was finished and she liked it. whew.....

It's times like these that I am thankful for having a nice supply of ribbons & flowers from the RRR store and access to a place like Polly's Paper Studio, our challenge sponsor. I was able to print out the Retro Valentine Card digital file, add some great mulberry flowers like the cottage rose, sweetheart blossoms, and other roses to the patterned papers and heart doily. some great saved snippets of the Sweetheart Striped grosgrain stapled to the upper corner are topped with a vintage button. Red burlap string tied around the card base adds the finishing touch.

Easy peasy!  The great thing is that this card design can be adapted for ANY holiday or occasion. give it a try! :)

Altered Table Decoration for Thanksgiving

Happy Monday to all of you!

I have a fun Thanksgiving project to share with you today. It's part 2 of the gift set I began showing you last week on this post.

I mentioned that I am notorious for saving ribbon scraps. What I didn't say was that I save all kinds of things for my crafting.  My project for today shows you how fun it is to re-purpose everyday items found around your home! :)
The base to this decoration is actually an almond can.  The top 2 pieces are old ribbon spools that were spray painted white. Miscellaneous ribbons, Wild Orchid Crafts flowers, vintage buttons, scrapbook paper, burlap and silk leaves, and foam fruit decorate the tower.  Touches of various Stickles add sparkle and shine.
I'll fill this with a yummy nut snack mix and then hubby will give it to some friends of ours this week.
I hope you are inspired to create something fun of your own with things you have around your house! Really Reasonable Ribbon has so many gorgeous trims and ribbons to add the perfect touch! :)

Ribbons and trims used:
tower - autumn diagonal striped grosgrain, delicate stitched satin old gold, wired woven check brown/white, seam binding dusty olive, burlap string orange
card - silky crush olive, shimmer satin tangerine with gold, autumn diagonal striped grosgrain

Wild Orchid Crafts flowers:
10 mm open roses, 15 mm open roses, cosmos, cherry blossoms

A Pumpkin Shaped Card with Shabby Bow

Hello, all of you ribbon lovers!

Today I have a cute pumpkin shaped card to share with all of you. It's actually part of a gift set. I'll be sharing the other portion with all of you next week.

My husband and sons will quickly agree with me when I tell you that I save even the smallest ribbon snippets. (I save LOTS of neat things to use on my projects, but that would be enough for another post entirely! grins!)

Have you ever cut the tail from one side of a bow that was just a smidge too long?  Yes, I save those. Or maybe you have a piece a few inches long from the beloved piece of crochet trim that started out many yards long, but you've been using portions and parts on specials projects.

I keep all of those pieces on my craft desk so that they can come to life again in what can easily be called 'shabby bows'.  Just gather the small pieces and tie them into your bow.  It's so easy to do, but adds such a pretty, shabby chic look to your project!
Here I have used the Autumn Diagonal Stripe Grosgrain to tie pieces of  Silky Crush Olive ribbon and Tangerine Shimmer Satin with Gold.  I also added a variety of flowers by Wild Orchid Crafts - cosmos, 10mm open roses, and 15 mm open roses.

You can find more information about this card on my blog, "Just Coffee Please..."

Thank you so much for stopping by! I'll see you next week with the rest of this gift set. :)

Halloween Note Holder

Hi Everyone, it's Teresa here and we are starting my favorite fall season this month with lots of Halloween ideas with all the new ribbons from the Really Reasonable Ribbon store.  All the colors are just gorgeous and I have so many fun things to share this month.  It was really fun!
Today I am sharing a quick note board that I made with ribbons from the "Monthly Ribbon Club" and some cute snoopy stickers that I had in my stash.  The board is a heavy weight chalkboard that I found on sale at my local craft store and I added the black clothespin on the side to hold the chalk.  For the bottom I glued on 2 pieces of ribbon and the made a cute bow to decorate the top so that it all matched.  Love these ribbons---they just look so pretty together.

So that's it for today..... something quick and easy to give your house that fun holiday feel and add to what ever else you have to put up.  Be sure and check back again for lots more ideas this month.

Have a wonderful and crafty day!

Celebrating FRIENDS

It's Karen Letchworth here today with something sweet!  Most of you who know me already know how much I LOVE Really Reasonable Ribbon and all their AWESOME ribbons, laces, trims and more.  Today, I wanted to create a card for a special friend, and I knew that Really Reasonable Ribbon would make my card super special.  I started with a piece of floral patterned paper that I touched the edges of with paint, and then machine stitched.  Next, I added some cute die-cuts, and topped them with a FABULOUS bow created with several lovely ribbons from.......you guessed it - Really Reasonable Ribbon!
The pretty bow I added includes the super sweet Roses With Scalloped Edge Grosgrain in Aqua (the pretty floral print), 3/8" Shell Print on Coral Rose Satin RibbonSatin With Grosgrain Edge Light CoralDiamond Satin Light CoralSwiss Dot Grosgrain in Coral Rose (a Really Reasonable Ribbon exclusive), 3/8" Shell Print on Turquoise Satin Ribbon, and finally the beautiful Double-Faced Satin in Turquoise.  It's just small pieces of each, and then they secured (or cinched) in the middle to create a bow.  Then I placed a little pink gem in the center of the bow.
This second photo gives you a closer look at the bow and all the ribbons used in it.  They all have such great textures and lovely background prints, making them all unique, and yet they all work together SO well.  That's one of the really great things about Really Reasonable Ribbon; they make it SO easy to combine ribbons together beautifully.  You really can't go wrong.
Finally, I want to mention the jar in my photos.  I decorated it by taking a canning jar and spray painting it pink, and then I adorned the lid with more of Really Reasonable Ribbon's GREAT trims including their sweet Helen White Crochet LaceCream Seam BindingRose Petal Seam Binding and the luscious Bay Leaf Seam Binding (my personal favorite).  But again, they ALL work together SO beautifully, and make your projects look fabulous!  Why not treat yourself to some today?  You deserve it, and you will absolutely LOVE everything you purchase.   We really hope that you will play along in Really Reasonable Ribbon's FUN CHALLENGE going on now.

Blessings to you,
Karen

Vintage Beach Journal with Beautiful Beachy Ribbons

Hello Ribbon Lovers!

You all know how much I love the beach.  I worked up a vintage beach journal with beautiful beachy ribbons to share with you here today.
This little wooden file folder album was painted and then layered with beautiful vintage images from Crafty Secrets.  I was thrilled to find ribbons that were the perfect match for the teal and tan color combo.  I tied Sage Canvas Color Band ribbon onto my ring binding system along with  this pretty Paisley Print on Aqua grosgrain ribbon.
Inside the album, I added bits and pieces of ribbon to tags, photos and pockets.  It's a great way to use up little scraps of ribbon.
Here's more of the pretty aqua paisley ribbon twinned up with my all time favorite Natural Burlap String.  On the facing page, I've used a scrap of gorgeous Turquoise Shell Print Satin Ribbon on my tag.
All the images in this little book are from the Crafty Secrets Summertime Journal and Images Booklet.
I love the texture and shine that just a little bit of ribbon adds to a layout!
Burlap does the same thing...lots of texture and an instant background.
The little album comes with tabbed manila divider pages.  I inked up the divider pages with Distress Inks in Mermaid Lagoon, Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass and Vintage Photo.  A little spritzing or stenciling on each page made quick work of backgrounds.  For the journal pages, I just cut acid free ivory paper to 4" x 6" which is 1/4" smaller than the size of the book.
When flowers are not quite a perfect match for a project, ink them up with Distress Inks!  To add a little shine, I tucked turquoise shell buttons under the flowers.
I found a big box of these colored paper clips at Tuesday Morning and I use them all the time.  I used Natural Burlap String to suspend my silver sea turtle charm from the clip.
I've topped my tag with Aqua Paisley grosgrain ribbon and topped the bag with another strip of the sage Canvas Color Band ribbon.  Quick and easy, but it looks great!
I have a tutorial on my Kathy by Design Blog with more details on how I put the album together.  If you're interested, you can find it HERE.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheerio,
